This is what I posted as well.  My point was in reference to 20-30 carbs per day and the ill effects it can have on your health. Any health professional worth his degree willl tell you that.  We have all been brainwashed into thinking 30 grams a day of carbs is ok.. that's why we are HERE on this website walking the same journey cause we bought into that crap.

I honestly don't know what people eat/drink to only get 20-30 carbs a day - you should be over that in terms of protein shakes, milk, yoghurt, vegetables alone.   I never did protein shakes, but I certainly ate and drank dairy for protein which automatically gave me carbs.

20-30g per day is a crazy goal and I think that 100g per day is quite a lot on a loss diet - possible on a maintenance diet maybe - I would think that that is a total for someone who exercises well!

I reiterate, not all carbs are equal.

I agree - people doing 20-30g of carbs is quite low and with carbs in pretty much everything but meat I don't see how that's healthy. I mean it's normal for people starting on the WLS journey eating very few calories but at 1+ year out that's very little.

I definitely don't feel good on that little carbs.

Im at maintenance and eat on average 1300 calories a day with my carbs between 100-150g a day. I don't do 150g everyday but it can happen. I must say that I eat "good carbs" in the form of veggies, oats, fruits and milk. I might do a pita or toast a few times a week but not every day.

As mentioned in the article - sugar is really what's "bad" and I keep my sugar intake quite low - so I also watch my fruits and usually have fruits on workout days (4-5 times a week)

Ive been maintaining for a few months now doing this and it's worked quite well for me.

a cup of milk has 13 carbs.

One sweet onion has 6.

Carbs are everywhere!

I maintain on 1400-1500 calories, eating  50-60 carbs a day on average. I don't count real fiber (from veggies or nuts).

For me to lose weight - 7 years post op RNY i need to limit my carbs to 20- 30 and calories to 1000-1200..

But i also don't exercise very hard...i walk a lot and do yoga.

I don't drink protein shakes (very seldom), don't eat grains, most fruits, or dairy (cheese, milk, yogurts..etc).

My carbs come from some nuts, green veggies, and occasional (weekly) fruits - (berries only)

Some my restrictions are due to IBS, food allergies, food sensitivities, and severe RH.

i adapted, and my body is doing much better than when i try to get more carbs...

The question is: if you want to lose weight - and your current plan - way of eating - is not working, then you need to change it.

It does not matter what works for me or anyone..you need to find out what works for you.

Let me chime in~

Almost 6 years out here....and yes, our metabolism changes. But the rules for us don't change. If we eat "protein forward" meals, limit most of our carb intake to veggies and (for me, limited) fruits....we will do ok.

But if we stray into carb wonderland, our old habits will be waiting for us, and will doom us even after success and great results post op. It's indeed a change for LIFE.

As for WW....my eating plan now is very much like the "original" WW plan of the 1970's. They lost me (and I didn't lose weight on their plan) after they began to introduce a lot of highly processed foods and shifted to the point system. I used to joke that WW didn't care if you ate all your points in Snicker's bars.... I know it works for some people, but for me it was not the solution to morbid obesity.

I wish i would have been around for the original WW.

I was one of those gals that would "squander" her points on baked lays.  I wouldnt lose weight that week either, despite staying in my point range.

Should have been the first tip off something was wrong (PCOS) ...but I was young, dumb and trusted the medical community i was a part of.
