Let's talk about our perception of food
So, when I was with my new therapist yesterday, I was talking to her about how I was eating and how I wanted to feel like I had myself under control. I was talking to her about how much I had eaten yesterday and how bad I felt about it. So she asked me what I had eaten, and I explained it to her.
For breakfast I had an egg cup, a packet of oatmeal and coffee with sugar free coffeemate (313 calories) at around 8am
I then ate 1 cup of plain fat free greek yogurt with half a cup of blueberries between 10 and 11. (123 calories)
Then at 11:30 I ate my lunch of 2.5oz of turkey with mayo and pickles on half a flat out wrap (169 calories)
My appointment was at 2pm, and by the time I got there I was ravenously hungry. But as we were talking about food and my problems with it, I was feeling super guilty and bad about how I had eaten yesterday and the fact that I felt so hungry at that time. She told me that what I had eaten didn't seem like much and that she'd be starving, too. I mentioned that I had a tiny stomach and that I think it should be different for me.
So, what say you guys, my fellow RNYers? I felt ravenously hungry most of the day yesterday. Would you have felt satisfied with this amount of food? Would you have felt bad for eating a cup of yogurt and fresh blueberries? Because I think that is where my guilty feelings were coming from, and the fact that I couldn't wait until noon to eat my lunch.
I think your menu is to blame. If I ate that menu I w be ravenous also
i would drop all the carbs for more dense protein
I agree, but there are days that I am hungry.all.the.time even when I stick to dense protein. Yesterday I ate 2 turkey sausage links and 1 egg scrambled for breakfast, Ham (3.35 oz) and a string cheese for lunch, string cheese for a snack and chicken breast for dinner, and I could have eaten my house.

then I would add two or three more protein meals to the day, for a total of 5-6 small protein meals a day.
I do this even now, at 7 years post op and I am maintaining just fine. I could not get enough nutrition with just 3 meals a day.

Just out of curiosity -- had you been eating more carbs in the days before? Also, for me, cheese and egg doesn't really act as a dense protein -- I know it does for some. I hate the feeling of being hungry -- and I have found, that unfortunately, neither cheese nor eggs work well if I am having a "hungry pouch" day. Would you be opposed to trying some pieces of grilled chicken, cut up steak, or even a hamburger patty in place of those things to see if perhaps you would have more satiety?

No, it wasn't triggered by an increased in carb consumption. My carbs tend to go higher on the weekend when I do a longer run or a double workout. The egg and sausage combo usually sticks with me for a long time. I had it for breakfast this morning and it's now 12:43 and I haven't even considered warming up my lunch. There are days where there is no rhyme or reason. And I'm not opposed to chicken steak or a patty for breakfast. The people around me don't even blink when the see me eating steak at 8:00 a.m.
Just out of curiosity (right back at ya!) I see your posts on the menu thread and don't know how you're NOT hungry. I would be a foggy mess if I ate a single sausage link and called it a meal. I get that you only eat dense protein (which is typically my menu) but, don't you get hungry?? How does one link satiate you?

I think what you are describing is completely normal. I definitely have "hungry pouch days" and days when it is so much easier. I guess you were just having a hungry pouch day! :-)
There's a difference between what you are describing as opposed to what I would describe as compulsive eating. I don't get from your post that you were feeling obsessive or guilty about your eating -- but rather that you were physically hungry and thus feeding your body. I see nothing in your menu that is triggering in any way?
To answer your question -- right now I am eating less than I normally do, which started with the AMAW challenge. Truthfully, I normally maintain on 950 to 1100 calories a day and fluctuate between 130 to 138 pounds. I like to get into the high 120's to give myself a cushion -- and actively try to lose anytime I reach 135. I have been going with the momentum I got from the AMAW and have been fortunate enough to have "small pouch days" lately --- coupled with having almost only dense protein, it hasn't been hard lately. It's not always like this!
You asked if I am hungry. Yes, sometimes I am quite hungry. One mantra I have learned (from HollyKim, I believe!) is that "hunger is not an emergency" --- I will be okay putting off fixing that until my next planned snack or meal.
I hope I answered your question!

I cannot eat oatmeal at all. It causes RH that takes a good 12-24 hours to correct. I also do not eat any type of wraps or bread and severely limit fruit. My body cannot tell the difference between the sugar in fruit and the sugar in say, a cookie.
I eat meat, poultry, some cheese, and a few non starchy veggies. I often do not eat breakfast, but if I do it is a cheese stick. My stomach just says 'hell no' in the morning.
I don't feel guilty about the food I eat, but if I stray off plan I do remind myself that type of eating is what got me to 300+ pounds and if I continue I am making a conscious choice to risk gain.
I cannot eat like a 'normal' person, because I am not. I have to eat portions and foods that work for me, even if it looks odd to others.
I fight badgers with spoons.

I don't think is a lot at all, and I always have something between 'breakfast' and 'lunch'. Actually I don't even call them "breakfast/lunch/dinner" any more because in my [twisted] head I should be able to stick to those meals times only-- and I can't. Not because of hunger (my hunger still hasn't returned) but because I just want.to.eat. So I call them meals, and I have 5 of them a day now. My lunch bag usually has two protein based meals and occasionally a piece of fruit.

things you ate woudl trigger my hunger for later in the day : oatmeal, yogurt with berries...- flat bread...- all of those have carbs that stimulate my insulin and I would get really hungry.
for some people - the calories are important - for me - I need to avoid grains and milk sugars. I can eat more fat and I don't really hungry. and I often have to remind myself to eat. I started eating fruits to get more appetite. so I can eat more...and gain a few lbs back.
