I had that a few times. I couldn't breathe, talk, just moaning on the floor. Middle of the night. Then the attack would pass, and if I were not lucky that night, it would return for a second time. But most of the time- one attack like that..

Fortunately or unfortunately, my Keith would wake up as i was moaning on the floor, and try to help. And I few times we were seriously consider calling 911. When i would get a spasm like that, i was no able to walk, so there is no way I could get into a car.

For me - spasm like that was a indication on one of 4 things:

  1. gas trapped inside my small intestine, trapped between layers of semi digested food. Gas that could not go up or down. Severe constipation. So severe that I needed 2-3 days to get clean for colonoscopy. Normal people need just 24 hours, or even just 18 hours. But when I took the stuff, drank a gallon of the liquid, nothing happened. That day, night, or even the following day. Nothing. Things started moving after 48 hour passed since i first took the cleansing stuff.
  2. Narrowing in a small intestine either caused by hernia or adhesion. Sometimes adhesion form bands that can start strangulating the small intestine. Or the guts get into the opening of the hernia, get twisted and caused that. imagine a tight band, or a twist that creates a severe narrowing ... as the body tries to push the food through....it has to put a lot of pressure on that narrow point.
  3. Ovary - cyst in ovary burst. That pain can be debilitating.
  4. Kidney stones. Passing a kidney stone between kidney and the bladder.

Internal hernia post op RNY is very common. And it often can't be detected under CT scan. I had internal hernia that were never visible on CT scan. Based on symptoms, the type of pain, how it progressed ...getting worse and worse...then often after it reached the highest possible level, then it was gone in almost no time, living me very sore, and very tired. Based on symptoms and no problem with my ovaries, or kidney.... my surgeon thought it was most likely hernia . That was discovered and fixed in surgery.

There may be more or different issues.

Please take good care of yourself - that sounds terribly painful. I agree that you should put in a call to your doc. Hope today is much smoother sailing.

I did get checked out yesterday, more tests today but they think it's a bike duct stricture. Probably surgery next week but I'll know more after the specialist today. No travel in the short term so I have an unexpected weekend at home.

I am so sorry. BTW- even with GB removed, you can have stones that can lodge in the bile duct.

I hope when you have the surgery, they also would check for internal hernia and adhesions.

That was a huge surprise learning yesterday! Bodies are so fascinating and there is so much to know! I understand a bit more now why there are so many specialties; how can one person know it all?
