Assuming everyone is off work or in a turkey coma? lol except me...

We went to my sisters house and back again. I brought smoked sausages, cheeseball which my nephews had NO IDEA what it was. man am I old??? but there was just so much food it was overkill. I had a plate which was still too much and took some pound cake to go. and yes, i ate it. it was very good but didn't make me feel my best.

QOTD: what is the last 'movie' theatre move you saw? ours was quiet place 2 in california when we went there. we plan to see ghostbusters though this weekend.

Happy Black Friday!

QOTD: Last movie I saw in the theater was Rocketman. I'm pondering seeing the Gucci movie with it's star studded cast. I used to go to the movies a lot when I had a movie pass. I ate at the movies like I ate the rest of my life-everything was in excess. I would eat the supersize popcorn with butter in the middle & on the top and a giant soda to boot.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. My Thanksgiving was great. I started off playing spades with friends for a few hours. Then picked up my sister and went out to the burbs to see my Dad at his assisted living home. After that, we went to my Mom's place in a neighboring suburb for the main event. My Mom made the executive decision that she wasn't cooking this year and it was a great decision since it wears on her so much as the years pass. Importantly, yesterday was a success food wise. I just had a dab of mostly everything and didn't eat until I was full. My sister surprised me with bariatric friendly cheesecake stuffed strawberries for dessert.

Anyone scoring any good Black Friday deals? I picked up a portable battery for my phone as if I'm already not on it enough.

B: Dannon light and fit coconut yogurt, banana, TJ cold brew, sf vanilla, stevia

L: turkey salad

D: turkey, gravy, sweet potatoes

S: 2 cheesecake filled strawberries

Many stores are open today, so there will be lots of people working and shopping. I don't think Black Friday is quite as crazy as when I was growing up and people would line up at 3:00 AM for a store that would open at 8:00 AM. I have memories of people fighting each other over bargain deals or things like Cabbage Patch dolls. I have not done Black Friday shopping in many years. My Christmas shopping is close to 100% online.

One of the things I was most thankful for yesterday is my pouch. While I saw people piling their plates high and going back for seconds and thirds, I struggled to finish a few bites of everything and wanted no part of the desserts. There was a time when I would have been eating myself into a turkey coma too.

The last movie I saw was Lincoln. I had just suffered a severe hearing loss and not yet found hearing aids that helped me. The theater we went to had closed captioning for the film, but you needed special glasses to see it. The glasses never worked for me. After that I watched movies from home where I have closed captioning that works.

I have found hearing aids that work pretty well now, but just never went back to a theater. Hearing aids are not like eyeglasses. You put glasses on and can instantly see clearer. Hearing aids have a learning curve when your brain adapts to them.

I always turn on closed captioning when I watch movies on the internet. I can hear sounds, but sometimes I can't make out what people are saying - they're either talking too fast or for whatever reason, i can't always understand or follow what they're saying. I think it may be more of a cognitive thing than a hearing thing - I also am having a harder time multitasking these days. I'm hoping it's just age-related - otherwise, yikes! Anyway, I love closed captioning!!

TV is a real challenge for me. Sometimes I will watch a show and understand every word and other times there is so much music and other background noise that I need closed captions to understand anything. My hearing with hearing aids now is about 98% of normal. But the hearing aids pick up the background noise so that makes it hard when a lot of people are talking at once.

My hearing loss was caused by a virus similar to shingles. I woke up one morning to a silent world. The ear doctors told me that people contact the virus all the time, it just happened to me at a time when my resistance was low. It is one of those things that is a one in a million chance. I had had a hearing test a few months before and the hearing was almost perfect. There is a procedure called cochlear implant. You still need a hearing aid after the implant, but hearing is much better in high noise situations. My hearing specialist is considering that if my hearing gets worse.

Thanks for starting us this Friday morning!!

QOTD - I saw The Eternals the Saturday before last (it's not very good but it is very long, so I do not recommend). Our theaters are masks required, all reserved seats with spacing, and I always sit in the top row so only have people ahead of me so relatively safe). I've seen Black Widow, Dune, Shang Chi, and the Eternals, in the theater since they re-openedwill probably see House of Gucci next week and I know our holiday games group is going to see the new Spider Man on NYD.

I had a great thanksgiving, fun time with the family, ate all the things I wanted to, played Telestrations and Catchphrase with the fam after dinner and then my oldest nephew made his first home made (including crust) pies, so I split a slice of the spiced
apple with a family friend -- I liked it, especially the "spice" part - it was all the usual holiday spices plus cardamom and he used Granny Smiths. He wasn't thrilled with it. Also took a bite of half a square of a brownie, it wasn't as good as it looked so I just threw the rest away. I definitely have learned that it has to be worth it to have the calories, lol.

We had two turkeys, because everyone wanted to try the Popeye's cajun turkey. It was moist but would not recommend at the price point but does have the convenience factor (it's just a heat and serve).

Today, heading to a small market/shop town with my sister and niece to explore, then if we get home at a reasonable hour, we'll try to FaceTime with our cousins in Australia, time change is a hard sometimes.

Menu today

3X coffee with half and haf

Potato pancake with a bit of turkey

TBD on lunch out with the girls

Dinner may not be necessary but it if is will be a bit of left over turkey.

Some pix from the National WW1 Museum - it was a very cool museum. The core exhibition was great and very detailed; the two temp exhibits were interesting - one focused on the Austrian/Russian front and my favorite was the Snapshot exhibit which focused on photography during the war. It was the time when individuals began to be able to have cameras and really changed the game. My cell phone, in case, was bigger than the Kodak Vest camera!

Have a fantastic Friday and weekend everyone!

The memorial tower was built in 1921 in honor of the 441 people from KC killed in the war; the museum was added underneath in the early 2000s.

Some pictures from the various exhibits; they had a great timeline of events happening simultaneously with the war, the reaction to soldiers coming home and finding out about Prohibition,- the composite photo is interesting; they do a soldier of November for every Veterans Day and it's made up of photos of that time...I think that digital mosaic is so amazing every time I see the technique. Anyway, I just found the whole place fascinating.

Your pictures are stunning as always. I love that quote about nothing to drink when they came home. WW1 and Vietnam veterans were not treated well when they came home. I was glad to see that did not happen with the wars in the last 20 years.

Morning! I ate like a cow yesterday. I just kept grazing... slow and steady, so I managed to pack in a week's worth of calories into one day. Winning.

QOTD: I guess it was the screening of The Princess Bride with a Q&A with Cary Elwes that we did on Valentine's Day of 2020? That was one of the last things we did before lockdown.

I really don't have a solid plan for today. I took a bunch of leftovers that I will probably pick at but I should really do some cooking and meal prep today to get myself back on track, but I don't even know what I have in the freezer! I might go brave the grocery store, but I doubt it. It's cold and rainy and I don't see myself leaving the house...

Good morning, everyone!

we had a wonderful day yesterday. After CrossFit, I got my kids donuts, but the boys slept until about 12:30, so they ate them as an appetizer, LOL. We had dinner from about 1:30 to 3:30. Then obligatory mini-nap in front of the game for a bit.

we went to our neighbors for dessert at 6:00, which was double nice because we got to visit and do not have sweets in the house. Overall, I felt like I did pretty good eating wise. Broke my two year Thanksgiving dumping streak. Watched Goldfinger last night before bed.

We aren't doing any shopping today. I'm happy for the people who do it and have traditions/get togethers, but too crazy for me.

We are doing the 300 workout today. I can do it RX, but still won't look like one of those guys. Later, we are taking the kids to Morton's. I have a gift card that I need to use before November 30, and the kids are home so perfect timing. And we need to make our Christmas lists.

QOTD: I believe it was Ford vs. Ferrari. We would go to Dune but don't know if we have time.

Breakfast: bagel

lunch: leftovers

Dinner: steak

have a great day, all!

Mornin' All!

I decided yesterday that I wasn't going to obsess about calories and macros and just focus on not making a pig of myself. I think i was mostly successful. Of course i had to guesstimate my calories afterward because it's become a habit. It was about 2300 for the whole day. That's a TON for me (I'm usually around 1700), but for a normal person on a holiday, probably not. I had some of everything - including pie - but i didn't pile up my plate or go back for any seconds. So I feel OK about it (even though I feel kind of uncomfortable this morning...so I'll be watching it today!!)

vet appt for one of the cats this morning, and that's it. I'll go to the gym at some point since I didn't exercise at all yesterday.

QOTD: It's been so long that I can't even remember!!!

B: plain Greek yogurt topped with 1/2 cooked & diced apple plus SF "maple" syrup. Coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: cheesecake-flavored yogurt pie with blueberry sauce

AS: protein muffin or else Greek yogurt with raspberries

D: leftover Thanksgiving food

have a great day, everyone!
