Deficiencies 13 years post op

My labs are normal (ish) but I have painful, nocturnal muscle cramps, a swollen tongue and I'm so tired even my shiny, new cpap isn't helping.

Anyone else still having issues with labs and malabsorbtion after several years post op?

I know that's what's going on, but no specialist in my area. White blood cells in the toilet for almost three years and the muscle cramps are unbearable, to the point of leaving bruises behind.

20 pounds lost during two week pre-op diet.

Does your local hospital have a hematologist? Sounds to me like your Ferritin and B12 are low. What are your lab numbers? Are you taking any supplements?

How extensive are you routine lab panels? My wife's annual draw for her DS is usually 16-18 vials, and I know some RNY folks have similar draws while others just get the basic CBC and chem panels. Beyond the iron complex, there can be all sorts of subtle things going on that should be investigated if the basics don't show anything obvious.

If I get muscle cramps at night ( they can be very painful ) its usually fixable by 1) drinking liquids 2) eating a banana or apple (potassium) and taking a few extra calcium/ magnesium supplements in my experience.

For me, dehydration is almost always the first cause.

I got depressed late into Covid and often forgot to take my supplements. I was shocked how quickly my energy level went down, how unwell i felt in many small ways and just how generally fatigued and grumpy I became . Regular exercise was the first thing to go- then social life, arts programs, even business responsibilities. When you dont feel well its very easy to put things off - including living your best life.

good luck !

While searching for answers, try Hyland's Leg Cramps pills from your local pharmacy. They work wonders and cost about $5 for a box
