Why am I stalling?

Okay, friends. I have lost about 13-15 pounds, which seems to change every other day. Why is my loss stalling? I am getting in all of my protein, but probably not all of the calories. I am doing my best with the fluid intake, but I probably fall a little (not much) short on that. I am walking, so I am not immobile. I do have probably a higher salt intake than the average person, but I also take a diuretic, so I tend to crave salt. Aarrggghh! I am frustrated. Everyone else seems to have the weight just fall off. What am I doing worng? Thanks! Christine

You are not doing anything wrong!!! You are losing over 0.5 lbs A DAY!!! That is more than most people lose in a week. Your body is still healing. You did a major thing to it. I think I only lost like 26 lbs in the first month. I am not real sure. Relax, you are doing everything right, you getting in the protein and fluids. And you are excerising. I rememer that I started walking about 12 days after surgery because I was not losing the way I thought I should. But then I remember what people have said, we are all different, we all lose weight different. Some will lose it faster and some slower. But as long as that scale is moving, then do not worry. Even if you hit a plateau, do not worry. You have done something to take back your life and that is what matters. Didn't you tell me you are now off you HBP meds? What is wrong about that? How often are you weighing yourself? And like I said earlier, step away from the salt or do not use as much and see how that goes. Keep your chin up and relax, the weight will come off. Hugs Julie

My loss has always bounced back and forth a few pounds like that the whole time, so that's normal for many of us. You're on the right track, and your weight loss is terrific! Remember, those pounds aren't coming back. As long as the scale is moving, you're not stalled. You will hit stalls at some point and they are a normal part of the process, when your body is taking a rest and gathering steam for the next loss. Stalls are VERY frustrating , because you can be doing everything right, but NOTHING will make that scale move. Dr Morgan told me that it's very important to take in enough calories, or you won't lose. That can be challenging physically, but also emotionally. I have seen several Buddies cling to their very low calorie intake when it's really hurting their cause. Keep a log, if it will help you, and really work on the calories and fluids. Try adding an extra snack or two. It really helped boost my metabolism at the stage you're at. Are you doing protein shakes and bars? You don't have to eat a whole one - just a few bite or sips at a time. Keep up the good work, and stay off the scale!! You're in this for the long run. Love, B

Hey friends, thanks SO much for the support. I truly needed it. I am getting in plenty of protein (anywhere from 80-100 grams a day). I did have a milestone this morning, not weight-wise, but in inches. I FINALLY fit into this jean mini-skirt that has hung in my closet for over a year. And it seems that every top I put on looked ridiculously huge. So the scale may be playing mind-games with me, but at least I know I am shrinking! Thanks again for the support! I will try to watch the calorie intake to be sure I am getting enough. Hugs and Blessings! Christine

1st OFF, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE MEDICALLY, CHECK INTO GETTING OFF THE DIURETIC ... THAT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS. OF COURSE, HEALTH ISSUES TAKE 1st PRIORITY, BUT 99.99% OF GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS NO LONGER NEED DIURETICS AFTER SURGERY. I WAS ON THEM FOR YEARS & GOT OFF THEM RIGHT AT MUSC. YOU'RE NOT GONNA WANT TO HEAR THIS, BUT YOU'RE NORMAL, MS CHRISTINE ... PROBABLY NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG ... STALLING IS THE BODY'S NATURAL RHYTHM AFTER GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY. YOU LOSE WEIGHT, THEN YOU STALL & THE BODY SHRINKS & REDISTRIBUTES YOUR FAT STORES WITHIN YOUR BODY. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING. READ MY PREVIOUS POST ABOUT MY LAST 14 WEEKS, YES ... 14 LONG WEEKS OF ONLY LOSING AN AVERAGE OF 1 # A WEEK, WITH 3 WEEKS BEING THE LONGEST TIME OF LOSING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. SOME PEOPLE LOSE FASTER & MORE CONSISTENTLY; SOME, LIKE MYSELF, HIT A WALL & LOSE SOOOOOOOO SLOWLY ... YOU CANNOT "TRICK" YOUR BODY. IT'S SMARTER THAN WE ARE & WILL LOSE, SHRINK & REDISTRIBUTE AS IT NEEDS TO. DURING YOUR STALLS, MEASURE & TRY ON SMALLER CLOTHES DURING THAT TIME. THEN, RELY ON THE SCALES MORE WHEN YOU'RE LOSING. I WEIGH EVERY DAY, BUT I LOOK TO MY CLOTHING SIZE IN THE SLOW TIMES & MY SCALES IN THE LOSING TIMES.
