Topic: RE: Confused
I am having Lap RNY. Why? The docs say RNY gives faster weight loss with
less chance to regain. There is no going back with RNY. I am having my RNY laproscopically. Also, the band needs constant adjustment. My doc will only RNY if you have insurance. Otherwise, she only does banding. It runs about $15,000. Whatever doc you go with, look at the total picture to see if they have support groups, nutritionist, excercise consultants--in other words, a support team. I looked at a couple of options, but found out there was only surgical group that my insurance would pay for. My GP doc said don't switch insurance, just do it as fast as I can with the insurance I have. My surgery is on Monday, May 9.
Topic: RE: Anyone Interested?
Hey Michelle
After your surgery, let me know and we can start walking/running together. I just started a new job so I won't be running any time soon. I work at the airport and walk anywhere from 7 to 10 miles a day. But, I figure it's helping me get in shape.
I've made it a goal to do the 1/2 marathon at Disney World in January. If your interested, you could walk it. Anyway....keep it in mind.
Best of luck on your surgery. This surgery has changed my life and I know it will change yours too.
Bye for now

Call your doctor, surgeon, or the place you had your lap band done at. My throat started to hurt a few days after surgery. Turned out I had strep throat. Go figure. In the meantime, drink WARM liquids to help loosen you up.
Good luck.

Topic: RE: Worries unique to an LDS person
Thanks for your post. It was precious.
My ward members know what a struggle I have had with my weight, and see that my activities have been so restricted by my weight and diabetes. For many years I was scoutmaster, and now I am in scouting again, but my activities are so disappointingly limited. Everyone *****ally knows me has given me lots of support.
I prayed hard for an answer to my weight and health issues, and this is the answer that came to me. I know it is right for me. As for the future, I won't be around to see it without the surgery, so why not take my chances with the surgery if I can get it? I will take my chances and be around to enjoy my grandkids. As for the WOW, what you need in your life right now is a famine, right? And what do you eat in times of famine?
Do you know that the church employee's insurance, DMBA, pays for this? A BYU friend who was morbidly obese had the surgery about a year ago. I saw her at a conference in Colorado and introduced myself to her--I purely didn't recognize her, though I had known her for years.
You will know what is right for you. Get good advice and counsel. My surgery is in 9 more days, and I can hardly wait. The surgeon, the hospital staff, the bariatric coordinator, the nutritionist, and best of all the other patients waiting for their surgery have been great. And greatest of all has been my wife. If I get down about it, she reminds me--It will save your life!
Topic: Post Op question
Hello.
This is my first post here. I just had lap-band surgery last week. I have a question for those experienced in the after-surgery routine. Everything has gone really well. Today I am feeling some tightness in my throat. Is this normal? I am not having any trouble swallowing. It is just a tight feeling. I'm a little paranoid about slippage. After going through all of this I can't imagine have to go back in for another surgery to take care of slippage. Does anyone have experience with what happens if the band slips? Should I be worried about the tight feeling in my throat?
Thanks.

Topic: NEED PLUS SIZE CLOTHING??? THIS SATURDAY IS YOUR DAY!!
I am having a garage sale on Saturday in Sugarhouse from 0800 to 1700. My mom and I will be getting rid of some plus size clothing (sizes 18 - 28) for pennies on the dollar. I think the most expensive item of mine is $5.
I won't be having my surgery until June and a lot of these things are beautiful winter sweaters and outfits for fall. If you would like to come by, I will make an even better deal with you if you identify yourself as a post-op gastric bypass patient.
Email me for the address at [email protected]
I wonder if we could organize a clothing trade, where you bring an item and can get another item in return. Would that work for anyone???
Topic: RE: What Did You Do With Your Old Clothes
If I have my surgery in June as planned, I will probably be out of my 26/28 and 32/24 clothes by September. You are welcome to take what you want as long as you share them with someone else when you grow out of them. Maybe we could start a clothing trade or something???? I am having a garage sale on April 30th and will have a lot of 18-28 clothing items. So will my mother.
If you want the address for the garage sale, please email me at [email protected]
