Topic: RE: Worries unique to an LDS person
Well. . . there are a lot of factors in play. It has been the end of days for centuries. Each generation thinks theirs is the last. You could die tomorrow in a car accident. The point is, God gave us this time to make the best of it. Do you feel you are making the best of life you possibly can or will the surgery help you get the most out of this short life? The truth is. . . no one knows when our end or the world's end will be. I refuse to live my life with plagues, disasters, rumors or war and actual war guiding all the choices I make. I do what I can to make things best for the most amount of people possible at the moment. I prepare when I can, but truly, you can't focus on doom and gloom and expect to live and happy and full life. When I prayed about this, I knew it was the right thing. I weigh 346 pounds and have to use a cane in the mornings to get into the bathroom. I'm only 32 years old and am missing out on the opportunity to meet a good man and have a family because of my weight and health. If I had less to lose, I probably would not have the surgery, but time is very precious to me. Maybe God is not giving you the answer until you make your own decision first. ON my mission, I found that once I made a decision, I could get my answer (even if it wasn't the one I wanted). God can't tell you what to do, but he can tell you if your decision is the wrong one. As far as members, I have found most religious people in general to be fairly judgemental. I have listened to their comments and reminded myself they have good intentions; however, NONE of the people who lectured me had ever been overweight or obese and knew NOTHING about it. Good luck to you!!

I think it's a very personal decision. Keep talking to people and researching until you have the surgery. I am going to have open just to reduce the risk of a bad anastamosis. I would rather the surgeon have a wide open view. I know people who have had both and it's not that big of a deal to have open as compared to lap. I have more weight than you to lose and just want to feel good and not have to be in pain all the time. I'm pushing for surgery in June (if my insurance pays).

Topic: RE: Anyone Interested?
I was just telling my brother the other day that I would like to be able to run/walk a marathon someday. I won't have surgery until June, so I will have to wait until I get some of this weight off my body to start training. I made my goal for two years. I weigh about 346 right now, so it's not the best time to start jogging. LOLOL. SOON SO SOON!!

Topic: RE: Been denied. Anyone have experience with appeal letters?
I was denied with United Healthcare. Written exclusion. I put my surgery plans on hold for over a year. Then my hubby lost his job, got his company stock payment and viola I paid to have my lap band done. It cost me $12,900. I would of sold my firstborn...or maybe leased him out to have this surgery. Appeal, appeal, appeal. If there isn't a written exclusion for surgery, then don't take it sitting down. It's their job to turn you down. If you have the cash, about $1000, consider hiring Walter Lindstrom, the Obesity Lawyer. He's good, he's honest, and he completely understands what you are going thru. And he will tell you up front before you pay him if he can win your case. If you do decide to use an attorney, make sure you get him involved BEFORE you exhaust all your appeal options. Good luck. Topic: Been denied. Anyone have experience with appeal letters?
So I've been denied on my first attempt. Read my profiles last update and you'll know on what basis. If you've appealed your denial I'd be interested to know both good and bad what your experience was with it. How you went about it and what you said differently to show the insurance medical directors that they should qualify you for the surgery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Andre
