Topic: Hey There!
How are all my Utah Lap Band Buddies doing? I've had a great day and thought I would give you an update! I was banded on Aug 11, 2003. I have lost 36 pounds and 23.5 inches! I can't believe it myself. I went in for my 2nd fill today and the nurse and I realized that I had lost 14 lbs. since my last visit on Sept. 24. When Dr. Alldredge came in he said, "Hey Skinny" and we both decided that since I'm still losing weight and feeling great that I could wait a little longer before having another adjustment! I'll give it another 2 weeks and see how things are going. I'm loving working out and never thought I would be saying that! How is everyone else doing? Check in! Tasha

Topic: RE: Insurance Issues
Does anyone have information about individual plans, I have looked at some sites and they exclude for WLS but my argument is that if I am paying for it I should have the coverage, and if they cover it for other people under group plans why not cover it for individual plans. Wondering if anyone has had WLS with selfpay insurance plans Alisha [email protected]

I asked Dr. Alldredge the same question. He said they prefer not to do the gall bladder at the same time... then the lap band becomes a "non-sterile" surgery. When you cut out the gallbladder that can lead to icky stuff getting into your body and causing infection. Sounded good to me. I know with gastric bypass they will take out your gall bladder at the same time because lots of people have problems with it when they start to lose a lot of weight. Dr. A said they don't have this problem with "banders".

Angela~ Insurance is always a good thing, but Dr. Alldredge and Dr. Hansen are starting to perform the Lap Band at the South Valley Surgical Center by Alta View Hospital. The surgery will be around $5000 less ($12,000, I think) If you are wanting the surgery quick that would be your best option...otherwise, I would probably find a job that paid for the surgery. Good Luck!

Topic: Gallbladder Question
I forgot I was also going to ask about gallbladder disease and surgery. I am having an ultrasound next week to check my gallbladder which I am pretty sure is in trouble. I have hear that if you want to have your gallbladder out at the same time as the WLS you have to have to open procedure. Is this true? Has anyone had both done together and had Lap? I really would rather have the Lap so I am a little concerned. Thanks again, Angela
