Topic: Please pray for my friend...
Hi everyone, I had my surgery on 8/8/01 and currently I am at goal and doing well. A friend of mine (actually my sweetheart) needs his surgery very badly and his insurance (UHC) will not pay. His church friends and I are trying to raise the money necessary for him to have surgery. Please visit his website...www.helpsaveavoice.com. All you need to do is listen to his voice on the website and you'll know why we need to save his life...and voice. God has already touched so many lives with his voice and his outstanding testimony. I cannot sit on the sidelines and let his doctors perform the tracheotomy on him. Please help if you can, pass along a word of encouragement...and most importantly PRAY that God's will be done in Jimmy's life. Thanks, Amy Buie Greensboro, NC

Go to the meeting Tamara, I assure you there will be someone there who went through something similar and can give you the empathy and maybe some advice on how to handle it all. The most frustrating part of having surgery, is just getting the approvals needed. All will work out, just hang in there - one day at a time, deep breaths when frustrated and remember, there's lots of us that can relate! good luck! Denise

Topic: Getting really depressed waiting
At least once a day I feel so depressed waiting to see what is going to happen with my insurance. I feel kind of ticked off at RMAP for getting my hopes up. I tried to tell them that I was going to be denied and they kept assuring me "Oh no, don't worry, we get approval all the time from them." It's been 3 weeks since I received my letter of denial from them and it still hurts just as much today as it did the day I found out. I don't know how much longer I can wait to see if I should appeal an written exclusion or try again when DH's job gets new insurance. Sometimes Mexico seems like an idea. RMAP wants $2000 from me with insurance approval. What is $5000 more? I emailed Walter Lindstrom and he was so quick to email me back for some info but hasn't emailed me at all since getting the info he requested. I think I would be ok if I knew I was heading in some sort of positive direction but this stand still is making me emotionally drained and I don't know how much longer I can hold on. I'm suppose to go to BSCI support group on Wednesday night at Davis Hospital but the thought of facing all those post ops makes me want to cry.

Good luck Mary. I am still waiting for my date. I am going to have my surgery at a surgery clinic in Sandy so it will be less expensive. I'm just waiting to hear that they've worked everything out to do the surgery there. Is your insurance paying for yours or are you self pay?

Topic: Anyone w/medicare have wls with RMAP
Let's try this again. I was wondering if anyone that has medicare in Utah has haed wls with RMAP. Since Cigna is being so difficult, I was thinking of going through my medicare. RMAP insists that medicare says you must have 5 years of documented medically supervised weight loss attempts or they won't pay for the surgery. I have posted this on the general message board and have had people tell me that medicare has paid for their surgery at 100% and they did not have 5 years of medically supervised weight loss attempts. I was wondering if anyone here in Utah had this experience. Please let me know if you have going through this. THANKS
