Topic: Any Lap Banders Out There?
I was just curious to see if any one out there has had a lap band or waiting to get one? Lots of the posts I have seen are for the bypass surgery...
check in if you are going to get a lap band or already have one. My surgery is scheduled for Aug 11, I'd love to keep in touch!
Topic: RE: Pregnant 7 months out
Congrats SuzAnne!
I have a friend that got pregant 11 months out. They hadn't been able to have children for 7 yrs, so losing weight definitely helped her. She's doing great, but has to work really hard to get that extra weight off.
Stay close to your Dr., ask lots of questions and work hard. Don't forget to exercise! It gets easy to get relaxed and use the baby as an excuse to eat more and not exercise as much! Good Luck! You'll do great!

Topic: Can't make monthly support meeting at St. Mark's
I told one or two of you that I was going to the support group at St. Mark's tonight but I can't make it. My poor hubby is in the hospital. He went in for outpatient surgery on Tuesday and they've kept him. He was to have kidney stones removed from his right ureter but the doc found that he has a big stone in a small pocket on the inside or outside of his bladder around his intestines. THis requires more serious surgery that his doctor can't do. We're at Salt Lake Regional until tomorrow but the surgery will have to be done at Univ. of Utah hospital. Boy, this was unexpected. Hubby is in a lot of pain. Poor baby.
Email me and let me know how the support group was. I've never been to one but was looking forward to meeting a few post ops and pre-ops like myself.
Topic: RE: I went to a Pre-Op Class!!
Hi Tasha,
The lecture was really informative and both my husband and I feel good about the procedure. I picked up a packet and will try and send it in within a few weeks. Viviane got up and spoke about her procedure and was very honest about what she does as far as her diet and any problems she's had. She was pretty funny sometimes. I really liked Dr. Hansen, he was funny too. Anyway, they answered every question we could think of. Sounds like the pre-op class you went to is similar. Most of the people at the class will probably be self-pay so I don't know if they are going to do it or not. My husband and I will try and figure out how we're going to pay for this so we can get this scheduled. This sounds weird but I'm worried about being able to chew food as thoroughly as they say so it doesn't get stuck. I can't wait to hear how everything goes with you. Be sure and let us know! Valerie
Topic: RE: I have a Date!
Congratulations Donna! I'd love to hear an update! I hope all went well and hope you are are "BIG Loser"!!!! My date is set for Aug. 11. I'm having the lap band surgery. See you "lighter"!!!

Hi Tasha
I am going to the lecture/seiminar class tonight at Alta View. I think that Dr. Hansen is giving the lecture. Did you go to the lecture? So what's the pre-op class about? Is it similar to the lecture class? My husband is going with me and I'm hoping that he doesn't get scared and nix my plans. I've enjoyed reading your posts. Valerie
Topic: RE: I'm SO not good at waiting
Roxanne,
Any news yet? Have they sent your paperwork into cigna? This is my first post and you seem to be feeling the same way I do. I turned in my paper work July16, 2003. I'm not good at waiting so I'm hoping you will get yours approved. I can then gage about how long mine will be.
Good Luck!
Topic: RE: I have a surgery date!
Tasha: Congrats on getting a surgery date! Way cool! I can't wait til that happens to me. I'm still waiting to hear from Cigna. I'm opting for the open RNY at Rocky Mtn. Associate Physicians here at St. Mark's. I also live in Salt Lake. I first started looking into this type of thing with hearing about the lap band on TV. I never in a million years thought I would have surgery to lose weight but, here I am. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Being 5'3 and weight 288 is desperate for me. My body is really hurting and hard to get around. And that's not good at only 38. For some reason I ended up feeling that open RNY was the way for me to go. Althouth it comes with more risks, I read somewhere that the RNY was a more permament tool and I have struggled with my weight my whole life. It is lifelong struggle for me so I need a lifelone tool. I couldn't find any docs up here in Salt Lake that did the lap bands that's why I started looking at RNY. Now that I've thoroughly researched both, RNY seems best for me. Of course I can't talk to the surgeon until I get insurance approval. That sucks. I don't like that. I've had other abdominal surgeries and would like to talk to him about that. That may play a part in my decision of what type of WLS. But, here I sit, waiting for insurance approval. Waiting drives me crazy. I can't think of anything else but being thinner, healthier and happier like the post-op messages I read.
