My plastic surgeons office called today to tell me that my insurance company has denied me. I cant afford the surgery with out insurance covering some of it. What should my next step be now? How can I get them to pay for it? What strategy should I use? Could someone offer up some advice to me???? Thanks Cath

Most people that get their plastics paid for are those on medicare or medicade . While you are probably looking at getting a TT .. most of the other types of Insurance . Medicade - Medicare .. will do the panilectomy .  Unless you where super morbidly obese ., with years of documentation on rashs and boils , you are not going to get it covered .  The only way I got my TT covered is I had a hernia .  It is a horrible decision as the diseas Obesity , like Cancer has left our bodies disfigured . And whil you can get new breast from a masectomy , you cannot get the skin removed from Obesity .  Perhaps one day ..  So sorry Cathy ... I wish things where different .  Tink

Thanks Tink... I really had hoped that I could get it covered. The only way that I can do it is if I dip into my 401K....... AGHHHRRRRHHHHHHH  Or,  I guess I could just live with the skin. I must really think this one over. Cath

That is what I did for all of mine - otherwise i would not have got it done - also some plastic surgeons do offer finance plans with pretty low interest rates depending on when you pay it back..... I thought I cpuld live with all the loose skin but I just couldn't :-( Jackie

Cathy Im sorry you were denied sweetie I know you were counting on the approval there are other ways and you will find a way if it is important to you. Thats why to all the newbies out there who are starting there journeys it is very important to take those BEFORE & AFTER pictures on a monthly base NOT just with clothes on they cant see the skin and sores boils rashes that way and those things need to be documented through your surgeons office or PCP take pictues an notes daily whatever it takes I had 3 letters 2 from surgeons and the PCP for my Panniculectomy and I also had pictures I havent gotten the final bill yet but whatever it might be Ill deal with it however I can It had to come off. Now the arms and thighs they will have to stay hidden a while or until I hit the lottery I dont play lol. Hugs to you and your in my prayers dont give up where theres a will theres a way.....

Well I do know that there are some insurances will pay for tummy tucks etc if you have a proven documented medical history of rashes or problems.  BCBS will.  They told me they would have paid for some of mine if I had more documentation. I had hernias but that wasn't sufficient  - although they did pay for the hernia repair - just not the PS part of it.  So you need a sympathetic doctor and lots of pictures....... But BCBS did state that they will not pay for arm lifts or inner thigh lifts - just tummy tucks  - which would be considered on an individual basis..... Not sure if this helps or not.... Jackie

I'm so sorry for your bad news, Cathy.  You DO look great, however!  I figure that the only one that is going to see me naked is my husband, so I can live with the excess skin. I know that you are disappointed, sweetie.  Take care.

Sorry you were denied Cathy.  I have only heard of it being covered with proof of rashes & hernias (even with hernia only part of it is covered).  Financing is offered by some surgeons.  You may want to check out the insurance forum or plastics forum to see if anyone there has any advice.

Hi, Cathy - I have everything documented with pictures for the past five years (even had prescriptions for the medication for the rashes, doctors visits - everything) and BCBS - I have had the same coverage for 8 years said no - they were not paying anything...I also have a hernia just below my belly button - but it isn't large enough for them to pay for even the tummy tuck. So...I am saving and saving.  I had my consult...and don't want to finance anything...so I am hoping next year for my Christmas present I can have my tummy, a lift of the girls and maybe my thighs done. Hang in there! Hugs! Jill

Sorry, Cathy I wished I could have PS, but knew from the outset that it wasn't going to happen.  I don't have much of a panis, no rashes.  I COULD be a size or two smaller if my extra skin weren't there.  BUT, I am so ecstatic about being in excellent health and physial condition that I just forced myself to stop thinking about it.  I am fortunate, like JoAnn--no one but Wayne sees me without clothing and he doesn't care.  There is no way I would finance plastic surgery. Good luck, and you DO look great! Hugs,  Lois
