I've been struggling a bit with what to eat now that I am on soft foods.  I am so sick of getting sick... but I know this is me learning..... and I have a long way ahead! Anyhooo... I return to work on Monday and am a bit aprehensive about the return to work and eating and stuff....   Its like all my knowledge for eating healthy was wiped out with the WLS.. (HA!) So I went to the grocery store and I found tuna in individual little packages (SCORE!) I got things for lunches, salad kits ... and a bunch of other "single" serving HEALTHY stuff... I walked out of Harris Teeter thinking... that wasn't so bad! I CAN do this....  I have already packed my lunch with protein shakes, breakfast, cottage cheese, lunch and water flavorings.... :) Yeah!  I just had to share..

Good luck returning to work. I dont know what you do for a living, but you will be very tired after your first couple of days (weeks for me). You will be tired physically and mentally. I know that I was bombarded with questions and inquires. I was very open with my co-workers about my WLS and they had LOTS of questions.  I think one of the best ones was this....
" So how did they take the fat out of you, and are you going to get some more taken out?"
SAY WHAT ?????? I found that people were not very educated on WLS, but I filled them in on all the gory details!
Have a good first day back!

Hey Cath - Thanks for the well wishes. I think that the mentally tired stuff is what I am most leary of. I know things are insanely busy as we have a huge Accelerated Training Reskilling Program kicking off in a month... God Speed or something to me.... Im in Training and Career Planning. So I need to keep my protein up so my energy and brain stay alert....

Individual tuna pkg's is EXACTLY what Im going to be filling my fridge with Tuna is about the ONLY seafood I can stand so I will be doing my special grocery and supplement shopping here soon and that tuna was already in the back of my mind. If Im not mistaken my grocer here used to carry lil tuna to go packets for people's lunches and they had melba toast and a pkg of mayo and relish in them. That will be good too minus the relish ... I think Im going to have fun picking out my lil "skinny me " grocery's!

Good luck heading back to work kiddo and congrats on all you shopping finds. And as you shop each week you will find things do get easier finding those little things to eat. And I find myself going to Kroger, Harris Teters, Giant, and Food Lion some weeks just to get in all my shopping needs because each store may have a bargin. But we have to do what we have to do right. Prayers going up for you to have a easy day tom. hugs....

Good am Amanda - its definitely a learning process. Thing will get better & better a little more each day. Today tuna might work tomorrow not and so its trial & error really. My guess is you are learning that. Work depending on what you do will quickly become something you hadn't realized took so much energy. Mostly because you'll be a bit more active than normal. Brain power and all! I wish you the best & sending prayers your way. Remember to take it easy & slow sips & bites. Take lots of little breaks to move around & get some fresh air. =)

The transition to the different foods can be difficult.  The biggest thing about work is taking the time to eat slowly.   It is trial and error so don't be too upset if things don't work.  The first week or so will probably be physically tiring as you adjust to going back.  I also found a bit of a energy slump around 8 - 12 weeks out.  Just remember it does get better & your body is adjusting.  Here are some food ideas: (mostly for quick grab items, for most of mine, I took whatever was for dinner & stuck it in the blender) cottage cheese yogurt oatmeal cream of wheat beans & ham refried beans (with or without cheese) chili eggs (scrambled, egg salad) tuna chicken salad pureed cheeseburger mashed fruits mashed veggies You may want to check with your surgeon or nut. about the salad stuff.   The lettuce etc is harder for the system to digest & a lot of dr. prefer to wait awhile before adding it back to your diet.  Let us know how things go.

How was your first day?  I hope everything went well - food wise and work wise.  :)  The only advice I can give since I'm on day number 5 going back to work is not to overdo it.  I found that I tire easily and REMEMBER sugery was less than a month ago - your body is still recovering.  Take it easy and "weigh" to go on planning your meals ahead.  It makes it so much easier!
