VERY annoyed...Bad day :(
Ok I'm having my break down, figured I'd bring you along for thr ride.
So, When I had my upper GI I was told to swallow that stuff SEVERAL times, I kinda got the feeling that at some point it wasnt going where it was supposed to go...why would they continuly have me drinking. Then the guy say's to me "well, Im not going to have you drink anymore, what Im seeing with you is not all that uncommon " If they need to know anything more they can have an abodiminal ultra sound down later...."
Now mind you I was still VERY drugged, in and out of sleep at this point. But then I was taken into the step down unit so I didnt think to much further about it.
Fast forward to now...My surgery was Wed. I havent yet had a Bowel Movement, is this normal>? I know some people that had to have one before they left the hospital?
Ok...
Now, I have heard so many thing's about how your pouch feel's following surgery. None of which is anything like mine and Im concerned. You see I went through the agony of being hungry for 5 day's prior to surgery knowing that following surgery I wouldnt be that hungry. With that small pouch, Id barely be hungry and it wouldnt take much to fill me up...NOT THE CASE WITH ME.
I'M VERY HUNGRY!!!!! I have been eating a MEASURED 2 ounces of food every two and a half hours, water and any med's inbetween. I have YET TO GET FULL, and as a matter of fact Im really hungry. It's not in my head, my stomach is even growling.
Now all of these thing's combined really concern me...I called up to ward 4 f since the clinic was closed today and they said they had nothing to offer me as far as answer's, basicly they were there to fill space on a holiday...
Someone help
Brandi~

First of all.... sorry you are having a bad day. I wish that I could say that the days post surgery were all easy, but some are not...especially in the few weeks (months) after surgery. There is a lot of factors that could be causing you to feel hungry. First of all, your body has been through a great deal of change and it could be just trying to get the energy to heal. It could be the meds that you are on causing you to feel hungry. Another thing is you are more than likely a we bit scared and this could be how your body is reacting to all of this. First thing tomorrow you should call your surgeon and tell him / her your concerns. He can give you the low down on what is really going on in your body.
Do you feel the least bit full after the 2 ounces of food? Are you drinking your water?
Take a deep breath, relax and know that things WILL get better......
God bless!
Cath

Matthew 6:33
Seek ye first the kingdom of God
The rumbling your feeling/hearing is not hunger. It is you pouch emptying and intestines moving.
I think it's ok you havent had a bm yet. Not much in....not much out.
Your sensations on how you feel are all different at this point. Think of all the nerves that were cut to make your pouch. You may have burping, hiccuping or a bit of pressure in the breast bone area. It is hard to feel full on what you have been eating. Just give it time.
Try some roast chicken chopped up really fine with gravy, pinto's. They are a bit denser.
Good luck---keep asking questions.
The first few days after surgery, for me, wasn't unlike the time after bringing my daughter home from the hospital...every little thing was so new I was incredibly aware of it. If you are concerned about things, you should call your surgeon tomorrow and hear the answers directly from him or his office. This is all so new to you, and it is going to take time to understand your new pouch and what your body is doing in response to what it has been through. Be conscious of what you are experiencing, ask questions when you are concerned (never hurts to be cautious!) and remember to be kind to yourself and your body! ;)
Good am Brandi,
How are you doing this am (Monday)? I would definitely call your surgeon's office this am and talk with them. I know that you are struggling but things will get better. Not having had a bowel movement yet is a result of not getting in enough fluids/food at this point. You might consider when you call asking for more details on what and how much you can eat and drink at this point.
Also note that your tummy growling will keep on for some time even when you are full. Lots of gas and your body trying to release it will have you feeling bloated and so keep that in mind. Head hunger hangs around for some time as well. I'm not at all discounting you not feeling full but head hunger is a real mean situation post op. Some folks have it from the get go and others it takes some time.
At this point, most importantly call your surgeon's office and tell them what's happening and in addition make sure you are sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walking frequently. Know that we are here to support you in all the ways we can. Keep your chin up I know things are frustrating.
Have a great Monday!

Brandi,
As was said above, none of the things you described in your post are unusual immediately after surgery. When the doctor's office opens give them a call and tell them your concerns. If you want to see the doc tell them.
In the mean time, I suggest that you sit down and focus your mind through prayer and meditation. (I suggest Psalm 46 - "God is our refuge and strength - a very present help in time of trouble". This works either way: even though your are probably doing fine, you can begin to realize that even if things are not quite right that God is there with you.
God bless you, dear.
Joe
Thank you....
I called this morning and Mrs. Boone had me laughing so much my incisions were stinging....
She made me realize Im complaining for being one of those pateints that doesnt have any of the bad side effect's. She said it's the first call of that sort she has ever received.
And I guess in a way that's true...but it's also concerning to me because, isnt that what bariatric surgery is supposed to do for you...make your body limit your in take and reject thing's that you arent supposed to be eating, or the way's in which you eat them...if my body doesnt do that, then what is this surgery going to do for me?
confused...but blessed...

Okay Brandi girl. Your nerves are still healing so you probably won't feel the full feeling yet. It may take a few weeks & the transition into denser foods to make you really feel it. Every body is different, I too experienced real hunger early out. A lot of people will pu**** as head hunger but it can be real hunger. I spent quite a bit of time talking to my nut about this & she assured me that real hunger can happen immediately. The noises can be your insides healing, you need to listen to your body & learn to tell the difference for you. Try some denser food if you can, make sure to be drinking lots of protein shakes as they will help you fill up. The BM, as Kat said, not enough food/fluid to make it happen. It does all get better. Just take it one day at a time & talk to your surgeon.
Thank Court. It's good to know Im not the only one!
I hear my belly all day long, it's not as if I hear my belly making a funny noise and then jump up and say Im hungry...lol
It's strange to me that I dont feel fuller than I do. I feel like part of it might be head hunger in the fact that Im not satisfied. I dont want to nor would I go eat a double cheese burger...BUT I would like to be fuller than I am.
It's really confusing for me personaly ( everyone is different ) I have NEVER been an over eater. EVER. I go to a buffet and I eat ONE plate, amybe a side bowl of salad. I dont make trip after trip just because it taste's good. But Im a late night snacker and I can go all day long without eating at all and then filling up at night.
So I dont think my dangers are that Im goign to strech my tummy back out but rather or not what Im eating is going to cause complications that I dont want to go through. I am also concerned that by not being able to fill up with a couple ounces like It should, is this surgery and how it's supposed to work...work for me? I'm really scared that Im going to fail!
And I know you guy's are tired of hearing me whinning...but for those of you who keep helping me I really appreciate it!!! You guy's are my ROCK!
