Hi Lisa: I'm so sorry you're having a rough time of it.  Post-surgery depression is actually pretty normal.  You're not going to fail.  How can you? You're missing 85% of your stomach. :) :)  You're going to do fabulous, and probably in 2-3 weeks, you'll look back on this time and think... "Wow, was it ever really that bad???" Just be nice to yourself.  Treat yourself to a maincure or pedicure... go to a movie...etc.  Maybe do some fantasy shopping either online, in catalogs, or at the mall about things you'll buy when you're skinny. :)

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

Can you talk to your physician?  When I went thru chemo, I found myself going into a funk during the treatments, because my body was taking such a beating from the surgeries, the harsh chemo meds, and just having cancer.  I talked to my oncologist, and he put me on Zoloft for about six months.  I figured since my body was being whacked around by the chemicals they were giving me, there was really no problem taking something that would bring them back in balance until I leveled out from all the treatments. What you're going through isn't all that different.  Your chemistry has been whacked around pretty good by the surgery, the complications, and now being sick.  And you have had major changes in your diet, which can whack things around as well.  Hopefully your doc will be able to prescribe something that will bring you back in balance until things level out.  It's actually pretty common for WLS patients to experience some depression after surgery! Awe Lisa I am so sorry you are feeling so poorly. It sounds like you are overwhelmed with everything.  Bronchitis is a ***** at the best of times, and having it just after major surgery...that REALLY sucks!  The ear thing can be sooo irritating too...I hate that more than anything.  This too shall pass...just keep that in mind. Why are worried about your eating?  Are you messing up?  Are you comfort eating?  Or eating things that perhaps you should be avoiding at this point?  Remember we are all different.  I know that Dr Joya said one week of clear fluids after my third day from surgery...but I just couldn't hack it, and opted for full fluids.  I don't feel guilty.  I needed more, had it, and tolorated it...I am okay.  You will be too. This funk will pass.  It is a totally different life for us.  We can no longer use food the way we did...and that in itself can be depressing...How are we to cope now???  We must find other things to comfort ourselves.  Take a relaxing bath...or shower...the steam is apt to make you feel better.  Experiment with make-up, play with your hairstyle...do something that is for you...something that will replace the food for comfort and hopefully you  will feel much better soon. Luv to you my friend. Ani

Awwww, Lisa, your spirit is broken. You have really been through alot. I can say this, about a week or so after my surgery I all of a sudden started having severe panic attacks! I actually thought I was having a heart attack! My friend came over with me, she lives right down the road from me, she layed in my bed with me and we prayed and ask that God give me peace. Its the most amazing feeling when you pray to God and he touches you, its so peaceful!  Turned out, it was the trauma from the surgery and I had myself worried for nothing. Get a gospel CD and sit outside or lay in your bed and listen to it and just spend some time with God - you will feel so much better. I pray that you feel peace and get to feeling better with your cold. We love ya here and your doing great!  I have days where I hardly eat anything or I eat something I shouldn't - most of the time I don't get protein in so therefore I drive myself crazy about losing hair - lol  I am a worry wart and I really have to pray about it alot.  God gave us a sound mind, not spirit of fear, worry, etc. Love ya chickie! Lisa, I am thinking of you and hoping this shall pass soon!  Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you.  Let your body rest and get over this thing.  You have been through a lot lately.  Be easy on yourself and better times will come.  God lets us experience times of sadness and hardship so we will be able to know and appreciate when life is happy and wonderful.  We are better servents if we know the difference.
