Any Aussie Sleevers?

Are there many australian sleevers on this forum?  I am in WA and waiting to have my sleeve (public system so don't have a date yet), but I would like to know is the surgery the same here as it is in the US, and so are the problems/challenges/complications likely to be the same?  I'm also curious to know how many VSG's have been done in Australia, and what kind of surgery numbers most surgeons have 'under their belts' so to speak. There seem to be a lot of local support groups for lap-banders, but none for sleevers, so a few of us are trying to develop on and offline support groups, and would love to have other expereinced sleevers join in, so please let me know if you are interested. We have quite a few Aussies here.  I'm sure they'll be chiming in soon!

Hi there ...

I'm in Sydney and was sleeved 1 February. All the details are in my blog so feel free to rock on by! I try to check in with the board a few tiomes a week but it's been crazy busy lately and on top of it I'm househunting, so my weekends have been all gobbled up!

In fact, it's been so busy I didn;t even get to come on and post I hit ONDERLAND on April 27 and am now sitting at 198 pounds! Plus I also have one, possibly two (depending on how dinner tonight goes) FABULOUS new high protein-low carb recipes to post.

cheers
Toni

Reporting for duty. Unfortunately we probably couldn't be much further apart. I'm in Townsville, North Queensland. I was sleeved in November and have done pretty well so far. Just like Toni my details are in my blog. I personally know a few other sleevers in my home town. A bit of local support is great. Cheers Leisa

Forgot to say that I have spoken to another member (poobearpam) who is from Perth. You could do a search on the members list for her. Leisa

Gday mate, I'm not in Australia, (worked a few years in Alice Springs, and loved it), but I think the only difference with the surgery between here and there is that the surgery is performed upside down. I too, am pre-op, and the wait is probably a lot more nerve wracking than the actual surgery. I'll be looking for your future posts as you move long your journey.  I enjoy the posts from all the down under folks. Keep posting, Fred

Hi M2

I am in Perth too, had my sleeve in Sep 2007.  All is good and feeling great and as far as I can tell it is the same as in the US.  All the great advice and info I received on this forum was relevant to me and was the deciding factor in my going ahead to have the sleeve.  Feel free to contact me at any time.  My surgeon was Leon Cohen at Mercy Bariatrics.  I don't post here often anymore - but read regularly. Regards Diana

Wow its great to see other aussies on here! I actually met someone today who had the sleeve done by the same surgeon I am having do mine, and she said her experience with him was awesome, so that was good to actually speak to someone who had 'been there done that'. And Diana your from Perth as well, how cool is that!  If you (or any other Perthies) are interested in getting together with other Perth sleevers, there is a link in my profile to the weight loss support forums where we are organizing a regular get together. Cheers m2
