Question for BMI's over 50
I am right at 50.6 BMI and I am having my surgery with Dr. Alvarez on 6/26. I was wondering for those of you who were at or above 50, were you able to reach goal? I have a pretty adventurous goal of 125 lbs. (I am 5'2'') and I am currently at 275. Should I increase my goal so as not to get my expectations too high and then be disappointed? I would appreciate your opinions on this. Also, can you send me the link to the forum for those with BMIs over 50? I would like to participate in that as well. Thank you!
Hi Becky,
Don't forget you can always modify your goal as you approach success.
Say you set your initial goal at 100 lb. weight loss. When you reach that point, or approach it, you can always reset your "final" goal to a 125 lb. weight loss.
And just keep applying that logi****il you are no longer losing weight long term (I'm not talking about temporary stalls here).
HTH,
Fred
I just had to tell you....YOU LOOK AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
CONGRATS on the weightloss. You have truly inspired me. I weighed 282lbs on day of surgery and my goal is 150lbs, I am also 5'2 . I am really believeing now that it is possible. I am just wondering if you needed any plastcis done? If so what? if you do not want to answer I totally understand! It is a personal question. Great job!!!! take care. Krista

Krista,
Thanks for the compliment. I dont mind telling you that yes I have some loose skin, I have started to research ps and the first thing I think I will have done is a lower body lift. My boobs need to be lifted but with a good bra I can deal with my boobs til later. My tummy and ass need it more.
Take care,
Susan

Hi Becky,
I had 200 lbs to lose when I started, but I'm 5' 6 1/2".
My best advice....and IMHO, don't get hung up on numbers! Do what you're supposed to do... Dr. A. , gives clear instructions and you will get lots of support on the board. I set a goal only so I had a number to work towards, but I can tell you that after losing over 100lbs... any weight after this is a bonus, because I feel so good now and life is good.
Really try not to get hung up on the scale... just do what you know you need to do and the weight will come off.... its hard to believe that its going to wor****il you are post-op and see the reality of how it will work for you.
Prepare yourself...
for stalls, they will happen, its your body's way of adjusting.
for struggles, they will come, just work your way through them.
for NSVs (non scale victories), they will appear at the most unexpected moments, enjoy them.
for slow loss, it happens to some people, but you will still lose, stick to the guidelines.
You can do this, your expectations are not too high...you will not be disappointed.
I look forward to seeing you be a big loser like the rest of us!
Christine
I was at 372 at surgery and my Doc said he could get me between 180-220 in two years with the VSG, faster if i was super vigilant. It's been a year and I am down 142 pounds and at a comfy 230. I know I'll be well in the middle of the range he gave me at two years out. I'd love to see 150, but don't think it'll happen without the bypass, and frankly I'm not willing to risk the health and nutritional problems for an extra -40 lbs.
My health is so much better, I am wearing a 16-18 pants (down from 34w!) Would I like to see lower numbers? You bet? Will I get hung up on that and feel a failure if I never lose another pound? Absolutely not. My life has been saved. I can move and feel in control. Life is good. The VSG is good.
