RIP post scared me!
But also, in that original post, I came away with the feeling that in addition to being careful to whom you've chosen as a doctor, that if something does seem right, speak up immediately. Like the lady wasn't outputting urine and should have had a catheder. Please be aware, if you aren't putting out urine after surgery that you have a cath. And if the warning signs start to flare that you have a leak----speak up right then and there or get a family member to take on a battle for your behalf; don't wait for the nurse or doctor to make the assessment---be a squeaky wheel that gets oiled right away.
I believe this young lady is heartbroken, understandable so, and wants to make certain that the lessons they learned and the precious life that was lost is not just in vain, but that we can apply those lessons to our lives.
That being said: Peace, and ((((hugs))))) to you.

I am not sure why that person chose to post that on our board when it was already on the main board and not a VSG. At any rate.....I guess u have to weigh the quality of your life now and for the future and make your own choices. Is your weight hindering your life? Is it making u sick or will it make u sick in your future. RNY is a surgery that can go bad because its complicated. VSG is pretty straight foward.....its like taking a seem in ......smaller tummy smaller appetite. They dont cut your intestine......I am so sorry this has happened to this gal and her family......and it is possible to have an issue in surgery but i would say of any weight loss surgery ours is by far the safest.
Kelly From Florida....From one woman who loves life and is totally mortified by even thinking of her mortality.....ITS GOING TO BE OK!!!!
Love Noel
We put it on this board because we all started out going for a VSG together I am the only 1 who had it completed successfully. Everyone needs to be aware of the good and bad. They never even got to do the RNY on her, they stopped and realized the adhesions needed to be removed first. That's when the dr. nicked her bowel. This could happen to anyone whether an RNY patient or VSG.
Kelly, Kelly, Kelly,
Relax! Breathe deeply, and let your breath out slowly.
Now, statistically, the odds are so much in your favor, much more than when you drive to the store for some shopping. Think of the number of auto accidents each day.
This doesn't stop you from driving, you just adapt to the rat race, and keep on trucking.
You're going to get this surgery behind you, and start your new life. Keep looking at that light at the end of the tunnel.
You've got a lot of folks looking forward to reading about your experiences on this forum.
Don't panic!
Your family will react to how you cope with this.
I'm pulling for you,
Fred
Just going through the hoops with Kaiser (my insurer), and hoping to have the surgery this fall.
I have a couple of appts in May, then have to take an 8 week course Kaiser offers to prepare their patients for the life style changes required to use the WLS tool.
Also, my surgeon is requiring a stress test due to CAD, and my age (71). I told him when he got through with me he could advertise as a geriatric bariatric surgeon.
Hope you're feeling a little better, it's so easy to stress out and anticipate the worst no matter how insignificant the odds.
Give your kids a hug, and have a great day,
Fred
