So I take a robe, slippers, toothbrush, lotion, lip gloss, medical/insurance info, and a pillow.  Anything else?

I see a lot of people mention bringing a heating pad. Is that allowed in your hospital? Or do they provide you with one? I don't know...lol. Good luck though!!! Luv ya lots!!!

Alot of people swear by gas-x strips.  Not sure they did much for me but it couldn't hurt!  Good luck!

Most heating pads can't be used in the hospital but you can ask for one.  I didn't need it until I got home and some of the hospital meds wore off.

Comfortable clothes to change into. I felt much more human in regular clothes I had a large 4x pair of pants, and a large shirt.

Hi LKH.    Heating pads are generally not allowed, if brought from home, but you can ask your doctor to order one for you.... they'll either get you a K-pad or therma care. That's what we use where I work. In Mexico, there are not the same restricitions and you can bring your own heating pad.    You can also ask your doctor to order Gas-X for you... it's simethicon. Works great.     MRSA...is a very nasty hospital or community acquired infection. You are smart to always wear slippers, and never walk barefoot in your room and then get back in bed. As a nurse, I know full well that the dirtiest place in a hospital is the floor. I cringe when I see patients walking barefoot in the hallways or wearing socks then getting back into bed with them on. I won't even wear my nursing shoes into my house. You can google MRSA to find out more about it and how to protect yourself from it. I don't mean to scare you, but it's better to be forewarned than ignorant. Protect yourself adn have a good VSG day !

Yikes!  Thanks for the heads up!  I've got slippers in my suitcase.  I also tucked some Gas-X in my suitcase, but thanks for reminding me that I should probably get it ordered.  I hate to do that, though, because the hospital will charge me $50 for a strip when I can buy a whole pack for $10!  L

You won't be charged for the gas x unless you ask for it. It can be ordered PRN.. or as necessary. Then just go ahead and take your own.......I shouldn't tell you this, but what you don't tell the nurses won't hurt you in this instance.  lol ..... the heating pad is another issue as it involves safety .... poor cords, fire.... although not likely... it's happened, so hospitals generally don't allow people to bring their own electrical stuff... although that is changing too, but the personal from home heating pad just doesn't work in the hospitals in the states.

You pretty much have it all covered. The only thing I can add is to be sure have have something to wear home that is nice and loose around your tummy. That pillow will come in real handy on the way home. Hug it tight. Wishing you an uneventful surgery and a swift and painless recovery. Let us hear from you as soon as you can.!!
