My new tummy doesn't like solids...what the....heck?

Jodi
Jodi, I am over 4 months post-op and solids, especially meats, really, really fill me up quickly. I still have to eat meat very slowly and my eyes are still bigger than my stomach. It is amazing how little I am able to ingest. That being said, I really have no problem with it because, overall, I have very little interest in eating so I don't miss it. Those crunchy snacks I posted about in your other question, may help curb some of those desires to chew.
Thank you mary, I can so relate, I don't have much desire to eat, its more of a oh my I better eat something, I need some energy, feel sluggish. Maybe I am just "thinking" I should be able to eat more out of old habits even though my tummy doesn't want it. Thank you for your input, it makes me feel better.

Was your chicken baked or fried? I can eat absolutely anything including steak but fried foods are completely out for me. Doesn't work.
I know that it can take time for your stomach to adjust to food again, maybe you just need a bit more time?
What if you try deli tuna salad? They blend it in a blender and you could do the same with chicken salad. See if that works for you. Perhaps the chicken is greasy, dry, something like that.
What if you go to your local grocer and get a super moist baked chicken? That's what I always suggest to banded folks that don't tolerate chicken well. Sometimes chicken made at home is a bit too dry.

I know you are sick of them BUT Dr A does make your tummies quite small so you might need to continue to be on soft foods. Also just FYI initially when I ate dense protein like chicken whatever I would only be able to tolerate 1-2oz. 3-4 oz of mixed tuna, chili etc.
Think of your tummy like a BABY tummy. You can't advance their diet until their tummy is ready...

THANK YOU MS. Shell, that is sooooo helpful to know, that is exacally what I was looking for when I posted this question, I think i am just thinking I shoud be able to eat more, not that I want to, I feel satisfied when I do eat (when I don't get the stuck feeling) and I am excited that I have this great tool of portion controll, I guess I just wanted some comparison in my new food stage, I will treat my tummy like my a baby, that is wonderfully put!

Hi Jodi, I also went to Dr A and I am 4 months out today. I went through this same issue. Only over the last month have I been able to start adding solid proteins and in "very small" portions. I eat other protein rich foods. I still tolerate veggie patties better than meat patties. I can eat a few chunks of chicken, a small veggie sausage or one egg. I can eat Turkey Jerkey if I am careful and eat it very slowly and chew very well. I also can not drink over 40 ozs of fluid unless it is a big calorie burn day. If I do a 20 mile bike ride or a super long walk I can push fluids and they don't come back up. On a normal day, over 40 and I throw them up because I drinking them too fast. Eating 5 small meals a day is working great for me, 3 meals left me with under 500 calories. But, 5 meals interferes with fluid intake so it is a trade off. If I get dizzy when I stand up, I grab my Camelbak waterbottle (thank you Celticfairy!) and sip until I don't get dizzy when I stand up. It gets better but it takes time and you have to figure out a schedule.
