WHAT SIZE SLEEVE IS BEST?
You know when I first did my research I asked the same questions of my Doctor. He said we don't use the other sizes, we leave only 2" . I was amazed so I asked why and he said you have less reason to stretch it out. You lose more weight and less surgery. Sounded good to me...I figure if you gonna do it why not the full deal.. Never look back and enjoying it..
Do you know what bogie (hope i have that right) size yours is?

Surgery Weight 221 Size 18W
Current Weight 130-135 Size 4 From what I can tell, most of the people on the forum get a size 34 bougie. Some of us, have a larger bougie.
I have a size 40 bougie. My own personal opinion is that bougie size doesn't really matter for weight loss (unless you start getting into really big bougies - if your stomach isn't reduced much at all, then I'd think the surgery would be pointless). I think that, if you have two people with exactly the same eating and exercise habits and exactly the same amount to lose and exactly the same metabolism - oh, and they should probably be the same gender and age - then bougie size matters. The person with the smaller bougie will have a *slightly* better chance of success because they'll get full faster with each thing they eat. Otherwise, it's what you eat and how much you eat between meals and how much you exercise and build muscle that counts *much* more to weight loss than the size of your stomach.
Personally, I'm thrilled with the size of my stomach now. It's a little larger than most - but I'm pretty sure that that's why I've had no problems whatsoever with nausea and acid (I mean - I haven't even had slight heartburn even once). But - I have pretty easily stuck to 3 meals small a day with a protein shake as a snack. My meals are always meat, low-carb veggies, cheese, and/or eggs.
Others on the forum may disagree with me - this is all just my opinion and not a result of something that I've read...

Hi Sharzi,
The smallest is a 32 bougie. THere are sleeve surgeons *****commend going with the smallest possible size since there is some minor stretch. However there are surgeons that advocate the 34 bougie size which is supposed to decrease reflux. The difference in size is minimal between the two. Even a 40 is not significantly different, but I wouldnt want anything bigger than that since it does make a difference whether you start out with a 1-2 ounce sleeve or a 3-4 ounce sleeve and onceyou get in the 40's, you are larger.

The difference is like 2mm....I have a 42 and am thrilled with my success so far. Surgeons do different things with those bougies when they get in there and you are never the wiser. Some staple over, some leave extra room, some go tight up against it. You will never know what your surgeon does unless you ask.
42 works for me with no real hair loss, no acid reflux at all, and I have lost almost 70 lbs at 4 months out. I am very happy with my 42.
