Had to go to the ER yesterday (long)

For anyone keeping tabs, here's the latest chapter in the nausea chronicles. Ugh. So on friday night, I started feeling really sick...a bit worse than usual. I took a phenergan and laid down. After about an hour, it wasn't helping the nausea, but it was making me sleepy, so I decided to just go to bed. I woke up saturday morning around 8 sick as all hell, and had to run to the bathroom. That was vomiting episode #1. After throwing up, I felt a little relief, but not as much as I would have expected (hard to explain). Anyway, I went and laid down again. About an hour later, vomiting episode #2. An hour after that, episode #3. That's when I called my sister and said I needed to go to urgent care, and I wanted someone with me. I headed out the door and took off. I didn't even make it to her place (about 10 min away) yet when I had to pull over and throw up again. After I got to her place, I asked her to take over driving. (side note: she couldn't pick me up--no car) We went to urgent care, and the short version is that the guy had no clue what was wrong and told me to see a GI person...which I already knew, and have been trying to schedule...grrr. He said that my BP was a little off, and he thought I was dehydrated, so they tried to start an IV. After 3 tries, they gave up. They gave me another shot of phenergan (higher dose), but a few minutes later I threw up in the office (I think I was at #6 or 7 by that point). They told me that the phenergan would eventually work, and that I needed to try and sip fluids to get rehydrated. So, we went back to my sister's apartment, and I tried for an hour to drink some gatorade. Then I threw up again, and this time it was much worse--even after everything was out of me, I just kept heaving. I couldn't believe how painful it was. We called the doc, and I was told to go to the ER.

At the ER, they did the standard tests: chest x-ray, CBC, chem panel, metabolic panel, UA. You know what they found? NOT A DAMN THING! I can't tell you how unbelievably frustrating that was. They gave me some zofran, and that worked better. I told them how I'd been avoiding zofran because of the cost, but I wanted some for the weekend, cause I'd rather pay hundreds of dollars than feel like this! So I was discharged, and was told to ingest nothing but liquids until monday afternoon, and then I can try something really soft like mashed potatoes.

So now I hurt from head to toe (even my lungs are sore!), and I'm doing my best to choke down some gatorade. On a lighter note, the girl at walgreens opted to sign me up for some program, and the zofran only cost me $25!!! I couldn't believe it. At least there was the one good thing yesterday.

So sorry...could it be gall bladder?  Or maybe just plain ole stomach bug?
Hope you feel better soon!

I will be happy with thighs that don't touch!

They said no to the gallbladder cause there wasn't pain where it should have been for that. As for a stomach bug, they said it was a possibility. They just don't know.

I am so sorry you have been so sick. I hope you can get in with the GI doc soon. Something needs to be done for you. I am glad the pharmacy was able to help you with the script. Take care,
Sharon

Sip sip sip.......dang docs. The worst is when the co-payment bills come rolling in the mail and you shiver knowing that they never diagnosed you but you still have to pay.......GRRRRRR! Glad the Walgreens gal had a heart. I hope you find some relief soon.

I'd be happier if it was *just* copays. I'll be paying every dime cause I don't have insurance.

Oh my! Having no insurance.......uggghhh!! Here in Hawaii, it's a state law that if you work more than 20 hrs per week, your employer HAS to offer you medical coverage. Depending on the employer, you may or may not have a monthly amount coming out of your paycheck. If you work for any of the hotels here, they usually have the best coverage. At my last job, i had 90 bucks per paycheck coming out to pay for Family Coverage. A family of 5. Not bad, eh? With the job I have now(small company with about 20 employees), my boss picks up the tab. All I have to pay for is co-pays. I love her for that.

Wanna move here??? LOL
