OT -- Venting about people who are way out of line

I just wanted to vent for a moment. Someone on this board replied to one of my threads with a political statement that I disagreed with. I did not appreciate their unnecessary injection of politics into a purely WLS thread of mine, but I chose not berate them. Instead, I replied lightheartedly and honestly with my own views. Their response was to insult me. I should have just stopped at that point, but I again responded without vitrol that we could and should agree to disagree. They were unable to do this. The person's response to me was to equate me with the Nazi's!!!! Unbelievable! And this person indicated they were sharing my emails with 'all their friends' so they could basically laugh about how stupid I am. LOL I am sure this person believed their words would devastate me, but it is sooo 5th grade. (I work with elementary students, so I recognize the tactic). ROFLMAO I think politics are better left on other boards where people are seeking that type of discussion. Name calling and insults should be restrained to the Rants and Raves board, if at all. This person has written kind and supportive emails on this board, which are always appreciated. It is disappointing to find that they feel it necessary to be otherwise when someone disagrees with them. It just amazes me what adults are capable of, and reminds me of what I know to be true -- don't talk about religion or politics unless you want to **** everyone off. LOL Kimberly

Ohhh, I hate political discussions.  Where did this happen?  We'll go beat 'em up. ;o)

:P Tempting, tempting...LOL I hate them, too (even with my son, who is REALLY into politics and knows his stuff! lol). I have an agreement with one particular friend -- we NEVER discuss politics, because he is rather rabid about it (his words) and the discussions never go well. :)

I once had a roommate who was REALLY not a morning person (I'm not either!). We had to agree not to talk to each other at all until after breakfast. :) It was a plan that worked well and kept us great friends. I always appreciate when people can admit their weaknesses and find a way to work around them. :)

Sounds like you handled it well.

I am amazed at both the intolerance for difference that some people exude, and the gaul of those rare members here that do their best to try to spark conflict.  One can imagine that their personal life must be filled with chaos as well. It takes a secure human being to just sit comfortably in their own views. Smart of you to identify such antics as elementary school behavior and blow it off.

We're here to learn, share, grow and bond. Well, at least most of us

Thanks -- I think we all have an area or two of our lives that get our 'dander' up. It is good to know what those areas are and try to avoid them. There are some things I know I cannot discuss with anyone other than a close friend or two, because I am totally irrational about it. LOL Politics is definitely NOT one of those for me. :)

You learn a lot working with young kids, especially about the reasons for behaviors. LOL

I remember the post and had to restrain myself from answering.  I am sure that many people on this board do not agree politically and if they are interested in discussing politics they should go to a political forum where that is the subject matter.  I am very politically active but since this is not the place for it I do not put my views up,  the sleeve is not a right or left wing surgery that I know of.  I have many friends on both sides of the political issue and do not feel that I have to interject politics into every conversation that we have.

Agreed! :) Although...let's see. They cut off the left of our stomach (from our perspective), so that would make us right wing...but we are freed from our large stomach and ghrelin, freedom is liberating, so does that make us liberals? But we are not chained by 'big government' (getting fills, etc.), so maybe that makes us right-wing again...

Just kidding! :)

You and I both know that there are always going to be people that get off on debate..and a healthy debate, like is happening tonight, is not always a bad thing but one that suggests you think...not a bad thing sometimes for some of us. :-)

I didn't see the post so I don't know how rude the other person came off and it is always subject to ones own perception even if 100 people perceive the same thing. Delusion can be a grand thing :-)...

Take it all with a grain of salt Kim...this is life and we take the positive and filter out the negative...at least that is what works for me ;-)

Hugs,
Beth

I have no problem with debate (mom always said I should have been a lawyer!), but only if it is about presenting each side's viewpoint without needing to disparage the other person! Basically, I think debates do not have to be about right and wrong, but your perspective and mine. If you cannot persuade me through your logic and understanding, you can be sure that trying to bully me won't convince me either. :)

I will filter, no question! :) I'm not overly sensitive most of the time, especially when it comes to online stuff (although my pet peeve right now is all about the scammers on Craigslist! I am looking to help my son buy a car and it drives me crazy how many scammers there are!). :)

Thanks, and enjoy the great weather!
