Have any of you had surgery around the holidays? If so what was it like for you. I mean I know that  I will have to give up food. It must be hard to do I think even harder during Thanksgiving or Christmas! I appreciate any thoughts.

I had mine on 12/13 and it was great - perfect timing really cause I was able to do pureed food for Christmas.  I actually had turkey and gravy with some dressing  - like 2oz pureed with some chicken stock and the gravy kinda liquidy for it...was still the best thing I had since surgery and I recall it fondly now!!!  I don't think it's an issue if your family is ok with you not eating - Tgiving or Christmas - who cares - it's new life and a new way of coping with life after surgery - regardless of what you do this year - think that next year will be even better - you could be 100 lbs lighter and still eat some of the meal.  Same thing this year - you could have something just depending on when your surgery is.

I thought it was fine and great - showed the family that they could focus on something other than food for a change - made me talk to my family more too - I wasn't stuffing my face!

I'm hoping to have surgery in November, and Thanksgiving is the only holiday we do as a family. Really nummy food AND an uncomfortable setting for me. So I don't know. But it seems stupid to wait for one more holiday to pass KWIM. Especially since the surgeon I'm seeing insists on wt. loss before surgery - so would I rather have a whole tummy and not be able to eat much, or have a tube tummy and be on liquids.

I guess itis a long tome between now and thanksgiving. If I had surgery By the end of this month. I could be eating or at least on mushies by Christmas. Maybe a few lbs lighter also!

I had my RNY Dec 12th. My first thought was why in the hell would someone be stupid enough to do that at Christmas time? Well it all worked out good. I had cheese and ff refried beans for Christmas dinner. It was my first real food post -op. I really didn't pay attention to what anyone else had because mine tasted heavenly. It really wasn't bad at all. I think the worse part was being at home and watching everything on tv. Also the anticipation of how I was going to do was far worse than the way it was. Best of luck to you.
