Have a Question?
For many folks day four is the worst day post-op. I don't know how common it is. I did not have a bad day 4.
Maybe there is too much sugar in the apple juice? I wasn't allowed any juices. Maybe if you tried some warm broth or even some crystal light- probably stay away from the citrus flavors they can be hard on the tummy.
You should feel much better tomorrow.

Hi Darline,
I grew up in St. Peters and still have family there. I completely relate to what you are saying. My day 4 has lasted a week. Everyone's body is different and reacts different ways after surgery. I had no trouble swallowing, but felt no desire at all to drink or eat. I started taking Prilosec and have been literally making myself drink. A heating pad became my best friend after I got home for the discomfort. My doctor doesn't allow any juice either, like some of the others. I have found that anything warm like broth or hot tea really helps the swelling. You have to try to stay hopeful, because I have spent too many days crying while reading other peoples stories about how great they did after surgery. Keeping in touch with my doctor's office has helped as well. The nurse always tells me that it will get better, and I believe it will. They can also help with your symptoms and tell you if you need some stronger nausea meds or a PPI. Good luck to you! I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you feel so bad, Darline, but try and be patient - it does get better, and usually very quickly. It's a good idea now to drink salty boullion/broth/miso soup, because the salt will help prevent dehydration. For nausea, when you feel it, breathe in through your nose and then out, slowly, through your mouth. The nurses in the hospital told me to do that and I was amazed, because it is really effective.
I had surgery Tuesday and I'm struggling to get my liquids down. I've found that warm goes down a lot easier than cold or room temperature. You have to play around with what works for you. Watered down apple juice does work for me as long as it's room temperature. Broth's feel wonderful going down. My main problem at day 4 is reflux. I'm miserable when I try to sleep. I'm up and down all night long and that has to stop. I have to get up and walk everytime I drink something that is not warm.
Hope you feel better.
Hope you feel better.
