diet sodas

I heard that you can drink limited amounts of diet sodas several months after surgery. Has anyone had diet sodas post-op? Good or bad results? What did you drink?

No no, most surgeons say no more carbonation ever again!  I'll let others chime in with the reasons; I just remember "nevermore!"    --Dorothy

I am 7 months out and I still can not drink carbonated drinks.  But I don't miss them now either.

I'm curious as to what answers you get?  I find myself craving the carbination in a soda.  I know it's all in my head, but I feel just a sip would end all the maddness.  Actually if I just wait it out I find I forget about my wanting it in the first place, but it does return for me at least!  I am too scared at this point to even attempt a soda, but dreaming about it never hurt anyone!  I'm sure when the time comes for me to try some I will find it to be horribly disghusting(sp).

I asked the same question just last week - I am dying for a Coke.  I received pretty much the same answers you are getting.  I was also told it would be okay if you let it go flat - but then what's the use, right!!!  I sometimes feel if I could just take one little sip I'll get over the craving but then I'm afraid that I'll continue to want it.  This is really the only thing that I've missed since surgery (which was 10/23).

I am not sure I totally buy the idea that soda can stretch our tummies.  I do agree with my surgeon that the habits that are attached to drinking sodas is a main reason for obesity.  And, there are numerous studies recently associating the sweetners in sodas (even diet ones) with weight gain.  I don't want to ever risk being morbidly obese ever again.  I will never drink another soda.  I don't even miss them anymore.  I made that mental promise to myself before I ever ponied up $10K for my surgery.  I knew if I couldn't keep that one simple life change then I was wasting my money.  Please don't get started on sodas again.  You CAN live life without carbonation.
I have maintained for one year at this point.  I am steady at -120 pounds.  =)
