Hi!

Wondering how soon you were eating anything spicy.. hot.. after surgery.   I know everyone is different and Dr's seem to have different schedules for thier patients.. but, I'm just curiuos.

I love spicy.. hot.. anything.    Hotsauce, peppers.. etc...

And, what would be wrong with adding hot or spicy to your mushies and thicker soups?

Thanks..

Kelley

I think that depends on your tummy and your acid level.

I love love love spicy foods too, but I added alittle hot sauce to some corned beef yesterday and it didnt sit very well at all. My acid level went crazy and I had to take some Prevacid. When I eat corned beef alone there is no problem so I know it was the hot sauce. It was a really hot sauce maybe I should have started with something milder LOL.

I had this question too when I first had surgery, but no one ever mentioned it so I just went for it. I've been eating spicy things pretty much since I started mushies and have had no problems. I do take Protonix, so that probably helped with any excess acid, but overall I haven't had any ill effects.

I will be 3 weeks out this Thursday and I had a scrambled egg today.  I melted a tiny bit of mozzarella cheese on it and then topped it with some super spicy salsa.  Like you, I love super spicy food.  Everything sat well with me.  Give it a try but only try a small amount and wait to see how your body responds.

Ahhh cool.. I've had a little spicy pureed red beans and love it!

Maybe the equivalent of a couple tablespoons and it was heaven.. I also take Prolesec (spelling)   and have been for a couple years..   So, haven't had much of a problem.

I couldn't imagine why it would be a problem if it was sitting fine with me..   Cool!  Thanks for responding!!

Kelley,

I was eating spicy and hot foods as soon as I was allowed pureed foods. I was on liquids for 3 weeks and then pureed foods for 3 weeks.

I cannot eat a lot but I wanted what I did eat to be full of flavor. I bought and tried many different hot sauces, curries and pepper dressings. They were delicious and well tolerated. I never had a problem eating spicy foods. They were all well tolerated.

Since my capacity is so limited the amount of spicy/hot I was getting was never a huge amount like prior to surgery.

I added hot/spicy/curry to my soups, lentils and anything else I thought would be improved.

Enjoy,
George

My NUT recommended no spicy stuff for the first 2mo while everything was healing, then go slowly to avoid excess acid production.

Hope everything works out for you spice craving!
