Add on to the other day I posted somthing re: 250lbs, short and weight lose?
Im curious to how big ppls bougie are and what was start weight and how much did u loose. My surgeon does his bougie at 36. I am 5ft and 254 lbs. I guess Im considered a lightweight. Ha Ha I sure dont feel like that. Anyway I am jus trying to get a feel of what ppl are losing with different sizes.  I want to make sure I make the right decision. Is this 36 size a lil big I hear others with 32 & 34. I should be getting a date hopefully on Monday April 4th. I chose the sleeve and would like to lose 100lbs. But wondering do I need to reconsider and think of the gastric bypass instead for more weight lose results.

I just went back and looked at your previous post. You got great answers!

Here is the deal as I know it on bougie size.

Bougie size is really not about losing the weight....... You can lose the weight on any size bougie.......smaller being easier. But, 32,34,36.....40 you can lose the weight....many have.

Regain is the difference. Larger bougie sizes tend to have a higher rate of regain.

Of course.... it's up to you on how committed you are.... for most of us...it's not automatic.

Again.... I urge you to find a surgeon that believes you can lose the weight with VSG and has the statistics to back it up.

In my surgeons program VSG and RNY results are similar.

Hope this helps.

What is a bougie?

It's the tool that they use to size your sleeve. It comes in different diameters and is inserted down your throat into your stomach. Than your surgeon cuts and staples around it to size your new stomach. Than it is removed.

It comes in different sizes and some surgeons use other devices to do the same thing.

My doc used a 40 on me....that was five months ago. I started off as a lightweight, too. 5'5, 198 on the day of surgery. Today...144. Now that Im within a normal BMI, it is falling off more slowly. But, the scale is still going down.
Ive heard it said that the bigger size bougie might have more regain. I plan to prove that theory wrong. :)
You can lose 100lbs easily if you follow the rules. Personally, I wouldnt want a lifetime of malabsorption...but thats just me.

See..... annie_mo here is a great example of someone who has a larger bougie and is doing great! And I don't doubt for one minute that she will maintain well because she has made the commitment and lifestyle changes.

Thank you guys. I am worried bout the regain as well. Although my intensions are to follow rules and proper diet. I have seen a couple of ppl on here that had maybe something happen in there life and gained most of their weight back. They seem very positive and their intension of course was to not gain that weight back. After all they jus went thru a major surgery. So I dont want to end up like that. I want to at least know that many ppl have accomplished & maintained their weight. Even though we all have failed in the past with all kinds of diets. That is the reason we had to seek surgery, because our diets didnt help.
Frisco, Anne and any others, what makes this time so different???? I need to know from ppl who have some experience already. U guys are like the pros lol Help me. Im about to make a decision that will change the rest of my life......

I'm just gonna list some random realities......I'm a firm believer in getting un cloudy information and giving the same.

- No WLS has any guaranties....there is success and failure in all of them.
- I will say again.....pick a surgeon that you have confidence in....if you don't have that....strike one.....and you have to be prepared to make the commitment and lifestyle changes to make this happen.
- The VSG in general is a great procedure and done properly with patient conformity yields excellent results. Keep in mind it is a non standardized procedure.
- The reduction in the hunger inducing hormone ghrelin and the restriction makes it different than dieting alone.
- Aftercare and continued education about nutrition and working with the sleeve makes a huge difference than conventional dieting alone.
- The surgery is on your stomach..... not your head. You must be willing to change and adjust mentally.
- What other choices do you have?
- Visit VSGMG listed in my sig to read about many people that have lost the weight and maintaining.
- This procedure and my surgeon without any exaggeration.....gave me my life back.

Here is my one year post at goal.... I'm now 25lbs. under goal and at a normal BMI of 24.6

I hope I don't scare you away.... you have valid concerns and I felt that you did't need/want any fluff.
