I turned 53 a month after having my VSG.  I have never felt better.

I was 60 when I had my surgery, 61 now and doing fine.  As someone said on a post recently, 60 is the new 40 - might as well spend your "40's"-plus in good health!

i'll be 63 on Monday and my surgery is tomorrow.   i'm so happy to be able to get a sleeve now and not the bypass that was available when i was in my 50's  :)   i wondered about being "too old", but my age never came up for discussion with my doctors or my surgeon.   happens all the time  :)

We should all start a group! I just did my VSG and just turned 53. I wish I had done this 15 years ago but 50's is not that old. Just try and get into the best shape you can before surgery and get a work up to make sure you are healthy for surgery.

I was 58 at date of surgery. had an easy time and great experience. Have your mom read my blog page for my story and how things went. My older brother, age 62, is going to get sleeved next month after I shared my good experience with him.

There is a fellow named Old Medic who used to post a lot on this board but he has lost all his weight and only checks in occasionally. I don't know if he has much on his blog page but check it out. I think he had surgery at 65.

Let you mom know that surgeons require preop tests to make sure you are in good enough health for the surgery and have you take steps to correct any matters that might present an issue. So they make sure its safe for you.

Honestly, I have had worse dental work!  Tell her to email me or any of the other 50 somethings that have posted here. All would be glad to answer questions.

Diane

I had mine a year ago at age 51 and absolutely breezed through it with no problems at all.  I've lost all my excess weight and my hubby says I look and act like a teenager!  LOL

I'm 5'2" and 55 years old.  VSG 3/17/10

I was 61 when I had mine done.  You are never too old to improve your health and quality of life.

I was 61 when I had my surgery and I could not be happier.  No more meds, I've lost 116 lbs. and life is so good!!!!

The sleeved life rocks!!!!!

Go for it!!
