If so, do you attend?
Is it specific to VSG?
Do you find it helpful?

Yes, mine does. Not split by surgery, and yes, very helpful. Just helps to keep me focused and also get together with like minds. We share tips and tricks and the meetings are mediated by a dietitian and the psych. They also bring in guest speakers.

Mine meets once a month.  I attend whenever I can.  It isn't specific to VSG.  It is very helpful.  I wish I attended more before surgery also.  It's great for getting encouagement, tips, sometimes they bring samples of stuff we can try.   It's very informal and I enjoy going.

Yes, my surgeon's office has a support group.
Relatively small compared to other hospitals in the area.
But also a fairly new program.
It's for pre-op and post-op, band, bypass and sleeve. Run by a facilitator/psych and the surgeons don't attend.
I think it's helpful. It's on my calendar monthly.

I did visit a support group from another location......huge attendance. Plus they do things like clothing swaps, recipes,.....very organized but lots of folks.

Yes! We have one group meeting where there is a presentation and the second group of the month is behavioral run by the psychologists. All of the surgeries meet together. I find them very helpful and have never missed one! Furthermore, we can meet with a nutritionist, or fitness trainer as needed. We are supported for 5 years after our surgery. I chose a great program at Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawaii.

I am very lucky to have the surgery center that I have. Post-op groups are held once a week, with three different times you can attend. There is also a cooking class once a month with a chef.

Nothing is specific to VSG, but they are very helpful, from what I can tell as a preop. I loved the classes I had to take before being approved.

I also have access to my surgeon, a psychiatrist, and the Nutritionist for life (have to pay a copay for the surgeon). They are serious when they tell you you're a patient for life!
