I don't want to fail!

I changed docs when I decided not to do the lap-band last year.  Since then, I've been researching the VSG.  I have my intake appointment on the 15th with the new doctor.

I know that for me, as a post-menopausal woman, I really should be eating 1200 calories/day, low carb, to lose weight.  I have been interested in WLS because of the possibility of reduced hunger at that level of calories.  I am definitely a volume eater, but also a compulsive overater in that I have a really hard time stopping once I start eating out of control.

The hunger really derails me when I'm trying to eat abstinently.  I've lost my tolerance for it.  Do you think that even if I'm not one of the folks that experiences a dramatic loss of hunger, that I will be satisfied at this calorie level long-term?  I so fear regaining weight after going through something as dramatic as WLS.  Sorry, all I do is express anxiety!

Hi,

I ate too much and the wrong foods and binged because of stress and I've lost 100 pounds and I do feel satisfied with much, much, much less food.  I usually eat well, that is, protein first, then veg, etc, but I  also eat what I want to - it just itsn't very much.  I've been very satisfied with my journey.  I'm at my goal a year after my vsg and my life is completely different.  I did a lot of research about the surgery, but really there is no way of knowing how it will be for you, I think you just have to get the best surgeon and trust the process and do your best and eventually I found some really good vitamins that made a big difference for me.

Best of luck with your appointment!

All the best to you,

MJ :)

I never lost my hunger, but its completly different post op.   A much smaller amount will completly satisfy you.  Just one of the great benefits from the sleeve.   This is the best thing i ever did for myself and you will feel the same way i'm sure.   I get hungry and i eat,  just a much smaller portion and couldn't be happier.   good luck  :o) Jeani

i was also a volume eater and would get derailed by the nagging hungry feelings that would never go away.....

the sleeve keeps me from eating more than is absolutely necessary...   no huge bites, no second helpings, no "just one more piece"....   it was a real trial and error process, and i learned the hard way what happens if i eat too much!   and i don't get hungry an hour or so after eating like i did before...  i don't feel like i am ruled by my stomach -- i am back in charge!!

without my sleeve, there is no way in hell i would ever have been able to lose nearly 130 lbs......

Hi,  don't feel you are going to fail at this,  be positive that you have found the final solution.  This was the answer I had been looking for.  There were so many times I wished for a smaller stomach,  if there was a way that could happen it would be such a help.  I didn't want all my stuff moved around and the lap band wasn't the answer after I saw the problems with that.  I went to an orientation class and learned about the VSG went home and read more about it,  came here and listened to people and their experiences and learned even more and was sold.  This was it!!!!

I had dieted all my life,  I would lose weight then gain it back and more,  it was up, down, up down, but now I am sure I will be able to keep most if not all of this weight in the past.
Stay here and read all the posts you can and you will get all your questions answered and learn so much about the sleeve and how it works for everyone.  It is different for many but for the most part I think you will see there are not any regrets from the veterans.  In the beginning some have buyers remorse,  but with time it fades and diminishes..........good luck finding your way and good luck on your journey.

I'm 2 months post op and I still believe having VSG was the best thing I've ever done for myself.  I was also a volume eater, and an emotional eater.  Food and my stomach ruled my life. When I woke up in the morning, my first thought was food, then I concentrated on lunch and snacks and dinner.   Now, it's different, I leave food on my plate, I eat just enough to satisfy me and now I only think of food if I'm hungry.  I also LOVE to cook and I love to eat, but with VSG I can still do that, just not as much which is fine with me.    This is just my experience at 2 months, I hope you hear from some of the vets here.
