what happens if you dont loose weight on the 6 month diets?
Hello this my first post! I'm having my VSG god willing 5/26/2011 with Dr braverman at the n.e.w program in Newport beach ca... Everything seams to be going great except with my required 6 month diet, i haven't lost any weight i gained!!!!!!! started at 285 now 289 this is my final month and the general doctor told me if i didn't loose weight my insurance will not approve the surgery ..... Ive been weighting for this 3 years!!!!! so what i did now is i put myself on an all liquid diet consisting of 5 protein shakes a day and two small protein meals to loose weight for my weigh in on may 2nd any comments or tips for those who have gone though this similar situation?????
The insurance wants to know that you are willing and able to make some changes. They are spending a lot of money and they want you to prove to them that this is your only option. ONLY option.
If I was the insurance reviewer and someone on a six month diet gained, I would probably deny their request until they showed me they were willing to do the work.
I am not trying to be mean, just real. I lost ten lbs in that time frame and it was enough for them to know I was serious. I lost another ten or so lbs in the two week prep.
I am not sure if crash dieting is the way to prove to them that yiu can make long term changes.

I gained too during that period. What is important that you or your doctor document that a) you have been visitng them at least once per calander month 2) you are attempting to loose (i.e. are you swimming, walking or doing anything - make sure the doctors office or who ever is making your case knows. Every insurance is different but thats what my experience was.
My insurance required me to lose 1 lb.. lol. But the Hospital where I am having my VSG wanted me to lose 10% of my total body weight. I decided it was now or never. I do 1 hr of Racquetball (burn about 1000 cal) 4-6x a week. For meals I do a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, and a 500 cal or less dinner (check the slimfast website they have great dinner ideas!). My dietician said its important to have breakfast within an hour of waking up... It jumpstarts your metabolism. I have a snack between each meal, of no more than 100 cal. I have found Kellogs Fruit Crisps are delicious!! They taste just like pop tarts. lol. I took the weight off in no time! There were a few times when I made exceptions and ate unhealthy food... But I made up for it at the gym by doing the treadmill also... I know it sounds terrible, but for my last 2 weigh ins, I was super constipated, so the morning before my appt, I took a laxative... There was NO way I was going to have the scale 2 lbs heavier because I couldnt poop. lol. It worked. Good luck!!
Have you tried journalling? I'm a big (no pun inteneded) WW fan and have learned that writing down everything really helps. It obviously didn't get me to where I needed to be, it has helped me over the years gain some control. Sometimes you "eat" right and don't lose anything. If you honestly journal, every bite, you know it's not a real non-loss. I wish you all the luck in the world. Take care!
