Silly question- Seaweed Salad?
Ok, I know we are supposed to chew chew chew, however- those who know & love seaweed salad know that breaking this down is really hard. When were you able to tolerate it? It's very fibrous, but slippery, and damn tasty (to me.) Did it give you any issues?
Speaking of, I need to check out Elina's seaweed snacks- TJ's right? I'm an odd duck. I love seaweed and those dried fish/squid snacks with a passion.. as well as anchovies!

If you love seaweed salad, welcome to your new addiction. The seaweed snacks at TJ"s are an acquired taste for some, for me, they are my crack. I buy them by the case load and so do some of my friends. My 10 year old daughter also can't get enough of them, but she loves sushi like I do, strange child. I am sure you have nothing to worry about with the seaweed salad. I ate it after I was cleared for all regular food, about six weeks out I think. I have never had a problem with it. My new go to favorite at Japanese restaurants is tuna Poki. It is tuna sushimi with seaweed salad and sesame seeds and some finely sliced red onion and some other great things. I get it at least once a week. This is a Hawaiian dish and not every Japanese restaurant has it, and each chief makes it a bit differently. Yesterday, Frisco brought me some makings for Poki from his mother. I think my love of this dish has become legendary. (Frisco is awesome). Let me know how the seaweed snacks go for you. I would recommend you only buy one first, and check it out. You might run back in and try to buy them out, or you might think that Dr. C operated on my taste buds rather than my stomach. You decide.
I just realized that you are really just out of surgery. I would wait until you are at least six weeks or maybe even two months out.

Oh, I wasn't planning on eating any of this just yet, cottage cheese is still a challenge! I was just planning for the future trips to our fav dining places. I wish tuna poki was on the menu, it's not.. sounds wonderful. I may need to hit Frisco up for the recipe as I can get sashimi grade tuna here, and seaweed salad from the Japanese market.
I love dried seaweed- though the only seaweed snacks I had previously were the maki crackers with the seaweed wrapped around them. no carby crackers for me, but I still love dried seaweed.

Hi Elina,
Are the seaweed snack's and seaweed salad two different things? or are you making salad out of the snacks?
I want to go to TJ's and check it out, but I want to make sure I'm asking them to direct me to the right stuff!
I'm also looking forward to trying tuna Poki. I love sushi!
Thanks!

If you like seaweed and su****han you might and I stress the might love these little snacks. They have them at the front of most TJ's because believe it or not it has become one of their most popular items. Try one first, or you might throw things at me later. But it you love it, you might need a lot as it is sooo addictive. At least to me. The seaweed salad is very different and TJ's does not carry it at all. I buy it at Whole Foods, or Japanese stores or even most supermarkets that make sushi sell this now.
Early out I did not eat stuff like that (doesn't sit well in my sleeve!) I was a year.....or so.....out before I started on raw veggies. But i eat seaweed/ocean salad all the time now.......can eat maybe3-4 tablespoons now. It is very crunchy......and gets stuck in your teeth! If you can tolerate salad or raw veggies....it is probably OK to try.
