Kind of Gross: So Much Dairy and Fish in Diet --> the WORST gas EVER!!

I have recently made the switch from being vegan (pure vegetarian with NO animal products) to eating dairy, eggs and fish in my diet. Before this I hadn't eaten any animal products in 10 years, and I hadn't eaten fish in 15 years. And aside from a ton of veggies and fruits, I was eating a TON of carbs, which helped me get to be the size that I am.

So, I needed to make a change in my life. Not sure if it's going to be permanent (kind of don't want it to be permanent!), but am trying hard to make sure I have the nutrients that I need to make myself a healthier me.

That being said, I took it slowly and added Lactaid pills in knowing that I'd inevitably be lactose intollerant, but also made sure I'd be home after eating eggs and fish (so far just tuna) in case I had to run to the bathroom... which has proven to be a wise decision.

One thing that I have also noticed though is that I have THE WORST SMELLING GAS EVER! I mean, as in it even makes *me* want to get up and leave the room.

Does everyone else have this problem from eating dairy, eggs and fish? Or maybe it's just my body still adjusting to these foods and rebelling??

Sorry it's such a gross post-- but I was wondering if I was alone.

:)

If you are not used to eating these foods it's likely you don't have the intestinal flora and digestive enzymes built up to digest them well, so you are getting a lot of fermentation from bacteria in your gut (that's what causes the smell). I'd recommend that you buy yourself some probiotics and digestive enzymes with papaya to get your body back in balance. Hope that helps..

Thanks for the advice Sublimate-- I have been eating zero fat greek yogurt which has active enzymes and cultures, but hadn't thought about taking a plant-based probiotic. I'll look into a product with papaya when I go to GNC this evening. :)

a good friend of mine is a vegan, and has been since the day she was conceived, and we have had talks about things like this lol! to put it bluntly, rotten meat smells worse than rotten veggies! sooooo a carnivore's guts smell worse than a vegan's guts - and what come out of the intestines too.
