Just in from my 5 hour nutrition class

I can honestly say I didn't learn anything new (you guys have taught me so much!)

I did find out most don't get catheters but if they do they insert and remove it while you are out. Most of the time drains are not necessary.

The thing that struck me and it not just in this meeting and maybe it's cause I have to know everything before making a big decision in my life... anyway, there are so many people that seem to be clueless and going into surgery. Some of the questions this afternoon made me sad. Sometimes I wonder how doctors can operate on people who don't seem to grasp what they are getting into.

Guess I'm rambling...

ANYWAY, I did want to say thanks so much for all the info!!! You all are brilliant!

Hello there.  I could have written most of this post.  I felt the exact same way when I went to my required nutrition class too.  Sooo many "clueless" people.  No, I certainly didn't know "everything" but because of my MONTHS and ENDLESS hours on OH, I could have almost taught the class.  It amazed me the important things many had no idea about.  The best of luck to you.  Best darn decision I could have made!

Thanks! I just kept looking around like "are you people for real"

One woman who is having surgery in TWO weeks thought they put a sleeve over/around your stomach. She had NO CLUE they cut it out.

OMG!

Well the sleeve around your stomach gal, I can see your reaction. That is pretty wild!

But these people are in a class asking questions so I can't really fault them. It's the ones who sit through the class in a daze and then come here 3 days post-op and say "nobody told me ____________" that get me.

Someone posted a you tube video on the stapling process. I felt so much better after watching that because I envisioned these great big staples holding the stomach together. What a relief to see those small titanium staples. Also, thanks for sharing about the catheter because that was one of my big fears. I have not had good luck with those in the past, very painful and nurses always have hard time inserting the tube. Song
