From Newbie To Veterans: How often to measure/photodocument?

Crunchy As Can Be

I know it's because it's just so novel to me (today is postop day 6), but I can't help myself from stepping on the scale every morning and being shocked at the huge losses (and rushing to the computer to change my weight in my ticker!). And I know that once my losses stop being so "shocking" I'll likely move to a once weekly weigh-in on my home scale...

But how often do you all measure yourselves and photodocument your changing bodies? Is monthly or every three months often enough vs. weekly being too often that you wouldn't notice much difference?

Knowing that everything is individual for every person, what do you all seem to find good for you?

I'm not a real veteran yet, I guess. I am 5 weeks post op. I only weigh once a week, on Mondays to keep me on track for the weekend.
I also measure myself once a month on my surgery date for each month.
I was going crazy weighing myself daily so I stopped. It is very satisfying to see the big number once a week.
so happy for you. Hope things are going well for you and no complications. Now the real fun begins!!

I'm 6 days post op too but have only lost 10 lbs at the most.  20 lbs for you really?
Congrats!

I weighed myself once weekly, stark naked and before I ate or drank anything.

I measured myself monthly.

I NEVER "photodocumented" myself, I didn't see any reason to put that much flab on a photo!

From the beginning I have weighed myself every morning before eating/drinking.  For me, it keeps me knowing exactly where I'm at, and how different foods effect me.  If I eat something with more carbs, and I see the scale move up the next day..then I know not to do that again.  I just don't want to ever be up 4 lbs or so and not know for a week, when I could have caught it at 1 lb up..and adjusted what i was doing.  But that's just me..everyone has to do what works for them.

I take measurements once a month, only hips and waist.

I take photos every month also.  I cannot really see the changes until I look at photo's..just another thing that helps me along the way.

I am sooo with you Dawnie.  I do the exact same thing and feel the same way.  I don't want to be a week down the road and realize that i've gained when I could easily have seen a difference before it got worse.  Just me though.

I weigh every morning. Sometimes more than that- I'm an addict. I haven't done inches since the very beginning. I need to go look that up. I took pics every month at first. Now I just take them whenever or have good ones.

I have weighed myself every morning from the very beginning of this journey.  I will weigh myself every day for the rest of my life.  This is one way that I keep myself accountable.  It does mean that I have to except the one or two pound fluctuations, but I would rather do that then stick my head in the sand and only find out after I gained 5 lbs. or more.  It works for me.

I weigh myself "officially," once per week.  I also get on the scale every time I get out of the shower just to see what's up/down.  I get excited about things at about 25 lb. intervals - post to Facebook so friends/family keep up on how I'm doing, etc.  I'm still amazed every single day, first, when I wake up feeling so great, no aches or pains.  Then when I look in the mirror, WOW!  Then the clothes thing- I'm now a regular and area thrift-shops to replenish my wardrobe.  Photos? About every 25 lbs. or so.  Other measurements?  I don't bother with them, except clothing sizes - they amaze me.
I've lost 133 lbs. and I'm not quite 6 mos. post-op.  Still have 40+ to lose, but I KNOW I'll get there.

Not a vet yet but still had a plan for this so I'll share anyways :)

I was just like you in the beginning with weighing everyday and seeing the lbs just melt right off of me but I think around the 3rd week I disciplined myself to only weigh in once a week.

I take a picture about every 25 lbs lost and I have planned on measuring every 3 months just to make sure I get a good lowered number each time...it must be my insecurity that I wont succeed and wont see any inches lost, I dont know but thats how I do it and its working. I took measurements the day before surgery and the end of April was 3 months s I took them again. I was able to log in my journal that I had lost a total of 28 inches and with a number like that who couldnt be proud :)

Congrats to you and your new sleeve, hope your journey is filled with joy :)
