I don't smell so good...

I don't know what it is, but for the life of me, I can't stand my own smell!

At first, postoperatively, I thought it was maybe because I wasn't up to showering as much as I should have (duh- you think?), but I was so sleepy from pain meds and unsure of my footing and didn't want to slip in the tub.

But that was then and this is now and I've been showering daily for quite some time now and I still smell bad. It's not a sweaty workout smell, not my normal "stinky-armpits-oops-forgot-deodorant" smell, and it's not a smell coming from my you-hoo.

I even notice that I'll shower at night, go to sleep, and then by the next morning, my own aroma nauseates me.
My boyfriend doesn't notice it, but it makes me want to  sometimes.

WTF??

Has anyone else noticed this? It's gross!

Could be a few things.

Are you on a new med?

Are you eating things you didn't eat before? (protein shakes for example?)

Is it a sort of "rotting" smell?  (could be an infected incision)

Are you eating low carb? (ketosis brings on bad breath, which is what you may be smelling).

Is it a sweet-ish smell? (could be a yeast infection in some of your folds, if I may be so bold, and if you have skin folds, sorry.  this can be brought on by a change in diet, which changes the chemistry of your sweat)

Thanks, Kathy-- the new meds I'm on since surgery are ursodiol and my multivitamin. Everything else I've taken for years, and some, like my metformin, I have stopped taking (woohoo!).

I'm not eating anything now that I wasn't eating before... I've been using the protein shakes for at least a year, and just started on soft foods that had always been a part of my diet.

I am eating low carb, but it's not my breath that smells but my body. Like, if I sniff my arm it doesn't bother me, but to sniff inside my t-shirt would cause me to keel over! Perfume and body mists don't help, and apparently, neither does showering for too long.

It's not a rotting smell, and my incisions are all healed up with tiny little scabs.

It's sort of sweetish (not to be confused for Swedish, hardy har har), but not yeasty, but I also don't have any folds and I've never had any of the fungal rashes people get. Not even under my bust-- it's too small!!

I'm not sure what this is but if it continues, I'll check with my medical team. I have my first follow-up on Friday.

Sigh. I guess I'm just resigned to be stinky... maybe I should work out enough to get sweaty so I'll smell that unpleasant odor instead... at least I'd be able to identify that one and it'd come with some good benefit of burning calories!

Yes-- I have noticed that my apartment smells funky right in the hallway outside my bedroom! Maybe it's just my hypersensitive sniffer??

I hope so because I'd hate to be the stinky one in a crowded elevator.

I got the bionic nose after surgery, it never left and its only heightened by hormones, when my bionic hearing comes into play.  If my husband dies via fork to his eyeball while smacking his dinner, I am just saying now, I did not kill my beloved.  Just sayin.

I was trying an experiment for my protein issues and what I found was, when I was consuming digestive enzymes after/during my protein meal, I didnt get that tiger **** pit stank, you know, smells like ol nasty possum, and that is especially when I am hormonal.

Anyway, when I stopped the digestive enzymes (cuz it didnt make a difference in my protein labs) my ol stanky possum butt pit stank came back!!  BOOO!!

So.  That's all I have to offer on the bizarre subject.

Digestive enzymes or No More Ol Stanky Possum Butt Pitts!  Hooray!

LOL Brandilynn!

I don't know what an Ol Stanky Possum Butt Pit smells like, and I'm not even going to guess at what tiger **** pit stank is, but these are perhaps good terms to use to describe the green cloud living inside of my t-shirt. Not sure if I'll use a direct quote when I let my surgeon know what's been bothering me though... heh.

I'll try the digestive enzymes... what do you use or suggest? Someone once suggested papaya enzymes to me, but I didn't take the advice. Maybe it's time I do.

Also, when the police come knocking on my door to find out if I know anything about your fork-to-eye husband, I'll claim I know nothing!

Papaya was good for churning up foods in my bellah, but not the pit stank.  I got, from Vitamin Shoppe, a bottle, their brand, called Multi-Enzyme.  My morning breath was nice with them too!  Not all stankah!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a Vitamin Shoppe by me and I'll pick some up the next time I'm out that way.
