Hello you'll , My surgery date is tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it. I been looking into the Sleeve for about a year now. My insurance started covering Gastrectomy sergery this year so I jump on it, Got approoved and now the date is here, I'm going to take the entire month of June off at work to heal. I don't know how long I really need a nurse told me she had the by pass and if the sleeve is anything like it I'm going to need the time off of work. I'm a help desk anaylsis and I work from home so I really can work if I wanted to, but my company is giving me 30 days full pay of STD after the surgery so I'm taking it.

Congratulations on your day tomorrow!  Am sure it will go off without a hitch, and you'll be joining us on the Losers' Bench...I took about 5 weeks off work because my job involves lifting, and I didn't want to take any chances.  After surgery, be good to yourself...walk as much as you can because movement is good for recovery.  Once you're home, in between walking, be sure to sip water, sip protein, just sip sip sip...and get some extra rest.  Keep us posted!  Best wishes for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery,  Viv

Well good luck tomorrow - I'm excited for you and hope everything goes smoothly - I had my final appointments on Friday the 27th, and am really hoping they did what they said they were going to do and send my packet to my insurance company.  I have a great fear that I may lose my insurance come July 1st - my husband and I both stand the chance of losing our jobs here in Ohio, so we're praying the insurance approves it quickly - maybe we both will be off the month of June!!

You will be fine..I am one week using the same practice..Dr Yu came by on rounds. I am taking it easy but by no means am I "laid up."

The combination of your paid time off and having insurance cover your procedure is a blessing in that you can concentrate on healing/new lifestyle.

Try and keep regular hours at home as well as stay organized with protein products and other allowed foods needed for recovery. Don't hesitate to ask for a different pain med in or after the hospital..we all react differently to meds. I had heartburn issue in the hospital and was given Nexium via my IV and another PPI for home.

The practice will respond quickly and you can have nurses call or friends/family.

A big part of recovery is compliance...I have focused on type/amount of protein and my water.

On average, your 30 days off sounds adequate right now.

Focus on each episode-hospital first. Then week 1 recovery, etc.

Check out TLC has FB page as well as their nutritionists.

Very empowering to take that first step tomorrow...Good luck!

Congrats, I am getting so excited.  I will have my last visit on 6/8 pre-qualifying for my insurance.  I am praying that I will be accepted.  I pray that all goes well for you.  My daughter is in Katy and I am in Kansas City, wishing I could have her drop in and check on you.  Best of success and keep the faith!
