I need a reality check

I need a reality slap in the face.... I recognized that my relationship with the scale was becoming obsessive, so I put it away and only weigh in on Monday mornings.  So this morning, I am down another 2 pounds.  So why am I disappointed?  I have lost 4 pounds over the last 3 weeks, it doesn't seem like "enough".  I have been working out daily, get all my water and protein in....uggh.  I hate that the numbers have this control over me, now I am grumpy and sad.

Snap out of it Jenn!!!!  You are doing GREAT!  Two pounds in a week is absolutely PERFECT!!!  Do not fret hon!  Some weeks it will be more and some weeks it will be less, but the most important thing is that the number keeps going down and you are surely losing inches.  Have you been measuring?  That may give you the boost you need in these grumpy times.  Remember that you are working out and sometimes that makes you plateau a little.  Be sure you are drinking LOTS of water so you don't retain that.  Cheer up!  Life is good!!!

You are doing great! Don't let the numbers get to you...I feel that I am a slow loser, but a loser none the less and that is what this is all about. Some weeks are better than others but as others have said, this is marathon, not a sprint! Each pound loss is a pound in the right direction. Keep up the good work and you will be at goal before you know it!

also, if you're working out daily, you're also gaining muscle.

You will be way more disappointed when the weight loss slows way down at 6 months ....like me. Try to snap out of it now and not be obsessed with the scale now.  Celebrate each pound off and try not to compare.  Oh that was for me!

At my 4 week post-op, my doc's PA told me his goal for me was to lose 0-2 pounds a week. YOu're doing great. You're on a downward trend and that's what's important. I'm now at the point where I'm losing about 3 pounds a month. I say it's better than gaining 3 pounds a month.

Man, there seem to be hundreds of "Help, I have stalled" posts on here today. Must be something in the air. Or the water. I keep telling myself to be patient too. We must be happy with the small victories--keep focusing on them while the scale does what it darn well wants to.

It's not your attachment to the scale, it's your attachment to the numbers. Find some perspective that allows you to make peace with whatever the current number is. Focus on the trend, or on the long term. I often lay awake at night analyzing my loss rate and how long it will take me to get to goal, looking out there a few months seems to help because it doesn't matter where my number is right now (and I'm on an extended RV trip around the country and do not have a scale with me, so it's all I have to do..heeehee).

Enjoy the process and find some faith.

Thanks everyone!  I like the 0-2 pounds a week philosophy.  I have been thinking long term, and to get to my goal by a reward Hawaii trip I have planned, I need to lose 2.8 pounds a week from here out... hmmm, that's my goal anyway
