I dont know what to do..

I just want this SURGERY, and I am tired of waiting. They still have not submitted it to insurance, when they do it will take insurance up to a month to decide, then its 2-3 month wait from there to GET THE SURGERY. I have been waiting since October already (thats when I officially made the decision in my mind)

I now know I am financed for 1/2 the surgery in Mexico. I would only be paying like 4900 cash...and then finance the rest.....which would be $240 a month...which is do-able for us.

(I Would love to schedule it for August and they said that was their first available anyway)

I mean for obvious reasons I would rather insurance cover me, but at the SAME time I JUST WANT THE SURGERY. I WANT IT DONE YESTERDAY!

So, if it were YOU, YOU- and you had the financing- what would YOU DO?

Honestly, if my insurance was going to cover a big chunk of it I would NOT go to Mexico and pay more.

Maybe call your doc's office tomorrow and be innocent and tell them that you called the ins and they have not received the paperwork and if they could send it again? Kill them with kindness. It doesn't make sense to me that they are sitting on the paperwork, why not just submit it?

Personally myself no I would not go to Mexico because we had a family friend go and have the RNY and got gangrene and almost died. I dont know who her surgeon was or where in Mexico she went. But we are cash flowing the whole surgery for myself so i could have gone anywhere but chose a surgeon about 1 hr 1/2 away.

It's totally your decision.  You know what your family can and cannot afford.  I was self pay for my band and for the sleeve.  Insurance wouldn't cover it.    You can take your medical expenses for the surgery (including your travel) off your taxes which was a huge help for me.
Talk to your husband and make a decision together.  Good luck and I'll be praying your decision comes easily.

Honestly if all things were the same and I knew I'd have to pay half the fee for Mexico I'd wait and at least find out what insurance says.  I just can't spend the money without knowing that insurance will NOT pay for it.  There are so many other things that my family needs money for.  I wouldn't hesitate to self pay but I'd need to know about insurance first.

You could schedule the surgery in Mexico and if you get approved before hand you could cancel in Mexico.

Id do it :)

And in response to Wanttofeelalive32 do you realize how many people in the United States get staff infection? Now there is a strain they cant cure. Whos to say she got that in Mexico what did she do when she got back.  Some folks have posted about their wounds not healing and haveing a discharge from them.  Did that happen to her and she didnt go to her doctor?  I think its fair to say you have ****ting doctors no matter where you go.  I know people in jax that wont go to memorial hospital cause its such a **** hole.  Soooooooooo

I had no choice but to pay for my surgery myself. I almost think if I were you I would wait for insurance and put the other money away in an account for plastics when you lose the weight. (Or a nice vacation)

hi I know its not all the same but my doctors office sent it by mail and it was a week b4 insurance got it jun 9th and i called like everyday to check status and they approved it today
so call the doctors office let them know that you been calling insurance everyday to see if they got your papers and tell them if they didn't send them that you would like to talk to your doctor to let him know that things are not moving fast enough for you and you will go to Mexico if its going to take a long time!!! I'm 100% sure that they will do something about it then!!! because the doctor does not want to lose a surgery$$$ because people are not doing their jobs and tell them that you don't want to wait anymore and whats the hold up? (in a nice way of course)

thanks for all the feedback....and not to jump on the one who said that her friend almost died. I do NOT TAKE that lightly, so I understand where you are coming from, but please know my Dad....he DID DIE in the states from infections from surgery. Granted, it was a lot more complicated and was a open heart surgery...but he died of staph, e-coli, mrsa....vre, all the big hitters the nice big supposidly fantastic hospital here gave him. Yea...so, I suppose it could happen anywhere,
