May Sleevers Checking In!

Crunchy As Can Be
on 6/14/11 2:00 am - NY
Hey there May sleevers! How are you all doing?

I just got back last night from a weekend away to my boyfriend's parents' house in the Finger Lakes region of NY. We drove up Friday evening and got back Monday evening, so a full 3 days away. It's so beautiful up there, but the food choices are so limited (except for Wegman's, the BEST grocery store in all of the world). And I've cooked up there, but don't LOVE to take over his parents' or aunt/uncle's kitchens, so I try to avoid it when I can. So in preparation, I baked a giant salmon fillet before I left and weighed and measured out 5 portions of that in individual containers, plus I brought with me one serving of cold cooked shrimp, one serving of smoked salmon, and an entire bag of reduced fat string cheese, not to mention four bottles of pre-made protein shakes. I figured I'd be set, and if not, then well on my way towards eating appropriately for the weekend!

Unfortunately I didn't plan for the BBQ we went to on Saturday night and the unfortunate carb monsters that live inside my stomach and brain.

All in all, I think I made good food choices to help me stick to keeping with my personal eating plan, aside from the portions of chips and other junk I had sporadically. The only things I came home with were 3 of the 4 protein shakes that I'd brought.

I didn't lose any weight this weekend (left my scale at home and was afraid to see the damage I'd done this morning when I stepped on, but was pleasantly surprised that it hadn't gone up), but know that thanks to my new healthier mindset and surgical tool, things could have been A LOT worse. I'm glad I planned ahead and am so pleased that my brain is slowly changing for the better when it comes to how to be good to me.

How did you all do this past weekend and how are things going today?

Yesterday was my one month since surgery, May 13 here. I am new to OH and I do more reading than posting when I sign in. I lost 23 pounds in my first month and feeling good. The scale wont move right now and from what I am reading its common with  the 3 week stall.  It doesnt mean I still dont feel frustrated. So, I am a May sleever!

I was sleeved May 4th.  I'm envious of the amount of food you can eat.  I'm still at around 350-500 calories a day and that is pushing it.  I also had a hernia repaired and my acid reflux at the same time so I burp badly after every meal.  I can't wait to be able to eat 800 calories a day.  I went out to eat with my husband for the first time in over two months.  He suggested sushi so we went to Fishbones.  I ate one piece of tuna and rushed to the ladies room after.  I'm going to stick with mushies and puree's until my stomach adjusts.

Now that I'm past the 3 week mark and have started pureeds, I'm feeling much better... I even managed to do a half hour on the elliptical over the weekend.  The incisions still make themselves known throughout the day depending on how I move, but at this point, that's the only reminder that I had surgery.

I can see the weight loss (20lbs) in my face and definitely in my clothes since I dropped a few sizes.  Although I have 5 pairs of jeans that don't fit yet, I can't wait until they're too loose and I actually have to go shopping for smaller sizes :-).

I was sleeved on May 2nd, and have lost 34 pounds. I had the hiccups today that lasted half an hour. Oh my....quite a reminder of the surgery! I am able to eat 600-800 calories per day without a problem. It still takes me forever to eat, so I feel like I'm always eating. I use www.myfitnesspal.com to track everything I eat. Love that site!

Good luck all!

Heidi

Revision from sleeve to RNY is set for January 13, 2014.

I was sleeved on May 13th.  So far everything is ok.  I have acid reflux BAD but living with it.  I really have to watch my amounts of food.  Just started solids this week.....chew...chew...chew.  Since surgery I have lost 26 pounds.  Don't know if I have had an actual stall yet but I have had some wacky weigh ins.  That's why I have stopped weighing every day....that will drive you crazy.
Don't forget to measure yourself - NOW.  It comes in handy when you hit a stall or are in need of some encouragment because the scale is being stubborn.

You did really great on your first major challenge - A family barbecue.  So what if you slipped.  Think about what you would have normally done without our little tool.  That is what I think about when I feel like I am hitting a stall or challenge or what ever.....I am still doing better than what I did before my "Little Sleevie Wonder".  I Love my sleeve.   Yay May Sleevers!

I'm May 31st!!  but still a May Sleever!   Struggling with the foods. I can't tell when to stop eating, so I found if I eat a bit too much, then I feel bloated and horrible.  So I am learning.

Seems there are not many choices for me food wise.  Next week starts tomorrow and I get more choices!!  Yay!!

I feel so confused when I eat but its a learning experience.  This community has been so valuable for me, most times I find my questions here and answered!!

My VSG date is not under my name and I don't know how to get it there.  Any help would be appreciated.

Sleeved on May 23rd and lost 25lbs thus far. It's been a challenge with the season of parties, festivals and other celebrations. We are going a mini vacation this week for 4days. Unfortunately I'm not going to enjoy as much as everyone else since I'm not cleared to do much yet. ""BUMMER""

Only issue is re-occuring feeling of being lightheaded/dizzy while I'm eating but it seems to move on after about an hour then I'm fine. Can only consumes hardly 4-5 small bites of anything in one setting which takes me a good 30mins to get through. As far as the lightheadedness, the Nurse said it must be my blood-sugar...she is suppose to call me back again today.

I also use the phone application "MyFitnessPal"...that thing ROCKS.

I'm doing well- was sleeved May 19th.  I (finally) graduated to purees last Friday- sooooooo exciting after a month of liquids.  It's going well, so I can start my soft/mashed stage tomorrow- again- sooo excited!  :)  I think cottage cheese will be the first thing I try.  I've been losing slower the last week or so, but I'm not discouraged.  I'm doing everything I am supposed to and I know it will keep coming off.  21 lbs since surgery, and 34 since I started my preop liquids May 9.  :)  I too can see it in my face and feel it in my clothes.  The pants I'm wearing today really need to be retired...
