Aloha Kanga-
Sharing is what helped me succeed at this where everything else had failed - other people's tricks for getting protein in, and motivational tools when the scale didn't drop, and when I needed to vent at someone other than my family - someone is always here on OH, even in the middle of the night ( you get the international replies from Australia that way!).
Be well- XOXOLori

You are welcome, and congrats on your success, CCB! When I had the VSG there were very few people out past a few years, so I vowed that I'd come back and repost on every surgiversary even if I didn't need OH as much for support by then. This surgery gave me my life back, and if hearing my experiences helps someone else regain control of their life, all the better. Be well- XOXOLori

Mahalo, Nicole- if you are still pre op, then take pictures NOW for comparison ( I hated the camera when I was heavy) and MEASUREMENTS also ( I neglected to do that til I was about 3 weeks out, and by then had already lost some pre op weight plus the first 3 weeks post op).  Photos and tape measurements were motivational for me in the weeks when the scale numbers slowed down- as were fashion shows ( putting on clothes that didn't fit 2 weeks earlier were now baggy even if my  weight didn't change because I added muscle and dropped body fat) and exercise makrkers ( reaching milestones that I hadn;t been able to do in years, like sit ups and push ups). You will love getting your new life! XOXOLori

Lori -

Thank you first off for taking the time to post. What a terrific post to start my day. I am 40 and waiting for my surgery date which will be in July or August. I can't wait and for all of the reasons that you just posted. I look forward to running my shopping cart back to the front door and also look forward to surfing; one of my new goals. My daughter goes off to college next year and I am divorced and single so looking forward to many exciting new experiences in my life. Congratulations to you on your maintained success and again, thank you SO SO much for taking the time to write.

Aloha E- My kids at 15 and 13 had never seen me this skinny- even in pictures...I'd been heavy their entire life. Your daughter will be stunned when she sees you at winter break, she might not recognize you! My son is leaving for college in the fall - he did his high school senior project on obesity and its impact on health, and came to many of my meetings and met many of my surgery sistahs- soon enough you'll be surfing WITH your daughter! Best of luck- XOLori
