The dreaded WHAT HAVE I DONE TO MYSELF!?!
Had my surgery on Wednesday but because they figured out the pain pump was making me vomit, I didn't go home until Friday.
My pain is tolerable with the meds and I'm getting about 50 oz of liquids down, but only water. :(
I tried some chicken soup protein mix yesterday- a full cup- the the cramping diarrhea started.
I am feeling so weak and puny and nauseated water is all I can stomach. I know I need to get some protein in as it's been so long.
Any advice?
Is this normal?

(((hugs))) the first week is the worst - this is normal! Focus on the liquid right now. See if you can do some juice mixed with water. G2 (low cal gaterade) or Powerade Zero are also good - they have electrolites. Once your new sleeve is feeling a little more forgiving, try the protein again - but when it's tempermental - don't pu**** - it will push back!
It will get better - I promise!

I didn't like any of the protein powder stuff. When I was on clear liquids I would make myself a can of Campbells Chicken Noodle soup and then pour only the liquid in a mug and sip on that. It doesn't have a lot of protein, but it does have some. And to me it was way more palatable than anything else. Also I ate regular jello and popsicles. After my surgery I stayed at my sister's house for 12 days and she wouldn't buy me the sugar free kind. She said I wasn't getting any calories and so I needed the regular kind so I could get SOME energy. My sister is a skinny health and exercise nut, so I thought that was pretty funny that she would be saying I needed sugar.
That's great that you're getting 50 ounces of water down. I couldn't do that at the very beginning.
I'm sure you'll feel better soon. It's a lot of trial and error to see what works for each person.

(((hugs)))) hun! It will get so much better - I promise! One day at a time...
If you can't tolerate the protein right now...just concentrate on liquids. Crystal Lights, chicken or beef stock/broth, SF jello, SF popsicles, Gatorade...it will take a bit but you will find something you like. I didn't worry about protein until I was a good 2 weeks out.

I'm sorry you're feeling
... hopefully it will pass soon!
I read a post recently that some surgeons are doing clear liquids only (no protein) the first week. The general idea is that you won't become malnourished without protein for a week, but you will become dehydrated without enough liqued.
Keep drinking whatever you can tolerate, maybe your tummy just needs a bit more time.
Hope you feel better soon!

I am so jealous you are getting 50 oz of water down. I had my surgery on wednesday too and as of yesterday I only got down. about 36 oz of water.
My Dr. told me that if I had to choose between water/liquid or protein, to focus on water and we can worry about the protein after the two week follow up aapointment.
I haven't had pain meds since the day of surgery, I enjoyed the pump that day. From what I heard, I remember none of it. But my family has a problem with pain meds so I kinda didn't want to take them.
My biggest problem was that when they went in they found a hernia that they fixed. So I am also recovering from that and I think that is what is hurting me the most right now.
I hope eveything turns around a little for both of us and we start enjoying what we have done.
