My surgeon/nut has me on nothing but clear liquids only at least the first week, and the first day I could barely stomach water. today I managed a half a sf popsicle and some sf jello. tried crystal light tea and dumped the whole 2quart pitcher switched to lemonade which is better in my tummy's opinion. I'm still leery about the broth. i've gone longer than this without eating with my dr/s blessing when I had a stomach virus, so i figure when my tummy is ready to tolerate more it'll let me know. at 277 lbs im guessing I dont run the risk of starvation just yet. ;)

That's my surgeon who had changed his post op diet to clear liquids only the first week, no protein drinks. He just got back from that big bariatric seminar in Orlando, and said the studies showed that no protein the 1st wk didn't change anything, and the focus should be on hydration. Too many stress over protein the first week, and don't get enough fluids in....Hang in there!

Could It Be & JMags: I posted yesterday hoping you were ok since we were sleeved the same day and you hadn't checked in yet.  I'm so glad to hear from both of you!

I'm right there with you.  MISERABLE.  The diarrhea is killing me.  It's hard to drink.  I'm no where near 20 oz yet today.  I think I got about 40 in yesterday.  I've got a ways to go today.

Just really sickly and sad.  This too shall pass.

I had liquids only for the first two weeks; that is four days in the hospital and the rest at home. I even didn't do too much better the third week but my doctor and nut both said that the water, liquids, was the most important at this time. If I had to let either protein be low or water/liquids be low, let the protein be low.  If you get dehydrated, you can end up in the hospital again.  If you can still get up and walk across the room several times a day, don't worry.  Once the stomach is healed and the swelling has gone down, the protein will go down and then you can work on getting the number of grams a day down of protein.  My biggest problem was I was getting weak in my legs at 4 weeks post op and at six weeks found out that my protein lvls were below normal.  So now, I am getting the protein and water every day and feeling much better.

Hang in there and if you start getting physically weak, call your doctor!
Best Wishes,
Granny
