Freaking Out!!!

So I have surgery tomorrow morning. I have been anxious all week. I didnt even do any of that "Last Meal" stuff or anything because I have been so stressed about surgery.

So I have finally calmed down and about an hour ago I get a phone call. It was a lady from the required group nutrition class. She had VSG on Tues and came home today. She was sobbing. Telling me how awful  it is, she wished she didnt do it. She has gas, cant lie down, cant sit ,cant get comfortable. She said the pain meds dont help and she can barely get her fluids down.

So as I am trying to be calm and listen. I could feel my anxiety rear its ugly head so bad I had to take some anxiety meds. I talked to my husband and what do you think he said????

Maybe you shouldnt, cant you do it naturally?. OMG

In my panic I bit my tounge because what I wanted t say...." Ok I'll do it naturally...I want a Divorce."  - that part I am kidding about. But I was gonna say it anyway. But the anxiety pills kicked in.
So anyone with encouragement will be helpful. Please feel free to be honest about your first 2 weeks post-op.

I can almost guarantee you that you will have moments of buyer's remorse. Most of us do, but even in my few little break downs, I can say that I definitely do NOT regret it. I've lost 10 pounds in the first week, 20 pounds pre op. Yes, my tummy is still sore, yes sometimes I already miss eating a big bowl of whatever hubby has cooked, but at the end of the day, I'm not hungry and I need this for my health and well being. I'm surprised she called you actually knowing how close you are.

Your mileage may vary. Many people here were absolutely fine after the first few days. Others take longer. ((HUGS)) You will be okay. Take a deep breath and write down the reasons you chose this route. Then on another piece of paper write down every fear you have. No matter how silly they are. Write them down. Then I want you to tear up those fears into little bitty pieces and throw them away.

You can do this. ((HUGS))

Coming from someone newly sleeved makes me feel better. (I think veterans feel good now and forget the beginning because of the changes they have already accomplished)  I am going to take your suggestion right now.

Thank you So much.

Yeah, love the vets, but they are 130 pounds down and have selective memory (I'm mostly kidding) but yeah. It's been rough for me, but nothing I cannot handle because I'm doing this for ME and, quite frankly, I'm worth it.

I wish I could take credit for it. My counselor had me do that the week before surgery. I thought it was totally hokey and went along just to say I did my part... but ya know, I think it helped. I realized the next day that I was at peace with all of my worst fears, for the most part :)

OMG Diana! I was in today for an EKG for my file. While there, I met two ladies one was 2 wks out of surgery and looked great! The other was 1 week out and said she never did get any major problem or discomfort!! She says she didn't even have much trouble getting down the liquids!! so, don't listen to the bad stuff! Every body is different as to how it will react! I am not a bit nervous just excited. I have had much more invasive surgeries in the past so this is a piece of .....fruit!! ha ha

If it is anything like mine you will be fine. Am 19 days out had minimal discomfort and was gone by discharge date (2 days). No complications, saw the surgeon yesterday and cleared me for anything including going back to work. Hope this helps GL and let me know if I can help.
