I LOST 47 pounds to become eligible!

Frankly, only someone that has some serious problems would deliberately GAIN weight, so they could get surgery.

A former Army Medic (1959-1969), Registered Nurse (1969-2000), College Instructor (1984-1989) and a retired Rehabilitation Counselor.  I am also a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.

I didn't, my PCP told me of at least four patients (obviously no details, just the count) he had who intentionally gained weight to have surgery.  And I'm not talkin bout 10 or 20 pounds to push BMI over threshold...I'm talking more in the neighborhood of 50 to 70 pounds.

He also indicated that it was so obvious in one case that this patient was required to undergo a full year of supervised diet since the weight loss was so rapid.

I can't imagine intentionally gaining weight but I have never been in that position (not being quite big enough) so I can't really relate.  However I would hope that judgements on any type of behavior would be few and far in-between on this board...

I regain the 15 lbs I had just lost and slouched to 5'6 instead of 5'7 to meet the sleeve requirements of 50 bmi that I thought my insurance had.

I gained just a couple pounds to ensure that I met and kept to the 35 BMI threshold. BTW, that's not fraud. They don't say anything about WHY you weigh what you weigh in the insurance requirements. I think the insurance companies are asking for it if they set arbitrary cut-offs. Every such rule predictably creates an incentive system to get around it.
