someone please explain
I ate crushed ice at the hospital and sipped the tiny bit of water from the ice. I ate crushed ice non stop. I did that the first 3 weeks after surgery as well. It totally helped and kept me from taking too big of a gulp and from getting dehydrated. Hope this helps. I used a snocone machine (small inexpensive one from wal mart) that is my daughters to shave my ice at home.
I guess I'm the odd man out because it did hurt for me to swallow. I was told it was due to heartburn and put on Prilosec. Every swallow for the first few days, no matter how small - or even if was my own saliva - hurt like I had taken a huge gulp of Coke and it was trying to decide if it wanted to come back up or go on down. You know - the burning feeling at the top of your tummy? Anyway, it's much, much better now. I only feel it in the mornings sometimes and if I take too big a swallow of something.
I can't say for me it hurt to swallow, but there was definately a difference, If I took to big of a sip it felt like an air bubble or something. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and I am beginning to tell a difference, My sips have increased (I just tested it lol) but still a long way from a glup! I just sip slowly all day long. Find something you like, it will help and don't forget sf popcycles count towards liquids! Cathi
This seems to be quite a variable, as I had no issues with getting liquids in; I wasn't guzzling like I was pre-op, but sip sip sip there was no problem in downing a 6oz or so bowl of broth and half cup of juice that was served up by the hospital. My wife had much more problems with liquids when she had her DS done a few years ago - the doc's response as to why the difference was simply that we are different, but both results fall within the boundaries of the expected.
