"Why did you do THAT to yourself?"
You are not alone - l get the same. lt's 'wrong', l can 'do it a different way', 'look, l cut my portions in half and lost weight'...Well, if someone eats a gazillion calories a day, and cuts that in half, they're going to lose weight (for awhile)...l'm talking about my family here... But for me, l don't eat that much in the first place - l've just yo-yo'd my metabolism into oblivion and nothing works for longer than 2 weeks. l'm getting sleeved so that l can enjoy the rest of my life, and not walk with pain, etc., etc... without being HUNGRY every minute!
l said you're not alone with having unsupportive family, but remember that everyone here on OH is here, AND supportive - any time you need it!!! l know it's helped me tremendously.

Hello, neighbor!
Sometimes people see us as a rebuke to them--"I've lost weight, why don't you?" and sometimes people have gotten in the habit of thinking, "Well, at least I'm not as fat as SHE is" and then SHE is thinner, so that does something to them.
I don't know, I haven't had parents since my 33rd birthday, but my relatives were 1st generation Italians, and they thought anyone under 200 lbs. was starving to death. And they thought of food as love. Maybe there's a similar cultural dynamic at work?
But good for you! I have bum knees, too, and I'm waiting for the benefits of surgery with regard to my knees to kick in soon.
