hi guys,

anyone had this conversation?  i'm half-way to my goal of basically cutting my weight in half and getting to 130.  i've told the doc and he's been perfectly nice about it, but they're telling me that i'll probably get down to 170 tops and then maybe gain about 10 lbs back by 5 yrs out.

i'm trying to be realistic.  i don't want to let go of my goal.  i physically feel ill staying in the 600-800 cal range and have been told 1000-1200 is preferable and will still allow me to lose weight.

i guess i'm confused!  i suppose i should be more hard-core, but think as something that i could maintain that's just not realistic.

open for any feed-back.

I would say put forth all the effort that you want to..in getting to whatever goal you have chosen for yourself.

My surgeons goal for me is 150... My personal goal is 135.. I was also told it might be hard to get there.. Pfffft! I guess I will have to show them!

Good luck! I'm sure you can do it!!

You cant know what you can do until you work at it girlie.  Lose while the losing is easiest I say.  He is trying to not have you disappoint yourself, but you gotta be the boss of you.  His heart is most probably in the right place and that is his opinion, but his druthers arent necessarily right for you. I say go for *your* goal.  You get to live in your body, you may or may not find that X weight is way too much of a struggle to maintain *or not* but who can know until you try?

NOBODY!~

Go girlie!

I don't see any reason why you couldn't reach any goal you set for yourself with some hard work. Now whether you can maintain that goal once you have reached it is entirely up to your body. Everybody's physiology is so vastly different and I firmly believe there is a weight range at which each person's body is comfortable maintaining so long as you are eating correctly and at least getting minimal exercise. For some people that weight is 120, for other people that weight 180..... I don't think we really know until we do some trial and error. I encourage you to go for your weight goal! Why shouldn't you?! Who knows, that might be a very comfortable weight for your body, but if it's not then you definitely have to be able to find the happy medium between keeping your body nourished and how you look. Good luck on your journey!

Hi my two cents is this my doc told me when I was 270 that I might lost another 50lbs i want to also be half of what I was 360 lbs.  Today I am 248 and I am just coming back from a weekend of having whatever I wanted to have I was on vacation.  No I am back on my grind and have my gym clothes at my desk so when I get off from work I change here at the office and hit the gym.  I miss the gym so much it's crazy....I would up my cals since you said you are not feeling so good.  Eat more protein and water water water...

I'm not a vet by any stretch- but I agree with Brandilynn..

I have a number on my ticker for giggles mostly. I will lose till my body calls 'no joy'. Where I end up will be far healthier than where I started!

I know for me, I cannot lose as well in a higher cal range and I have to stay very low carb to lose, and lower carb (but not as low as my 'dieting' range) to maintain and for my own health reasons.. so that's my own personal path. I will obviously not be as "hard-core" once I get to my final goal.. there will be some gentle tweaking to get my balance when that time arrives- but while losing, I need to bear down as much as possible to get this off me while I still have all the perks of being early post-op. It's a fine line to walk, and we all have to find that line for ourselves. I say pu**** as much as you can to get to your goal! If you don't make it- you at least know you gave it your all!

My surgeon told me when I started that I would probably lose between 65-85% of my excess weight.

My starting weight was 263 and my "ideal" (BMI normal) weight is 140, so my excess weight was 123 pounds.

65% of 123 pounds = 80 pounds, or a goal weight of 183 pounds
85% of 123 pounds = 104.5 pounds, or a goal weight of 158.5 pounds

As you can see by my ticker, I am 181 pounds now, so just into the "goal range" set by my surgeon. I do not feel anywhere close to done (although in all fairness, my weight loss slowed to a crawl this month).

I have my own goal in mind, a "normal BMI" first, and then to get into my 120s. I see no reason why I cannot accompli**** If, when I get closer to the actual numbers, I change my mind, so be it.

Do what you want/need to do for yourself! Have reasonable expectations, but don't let someone else limit you, either.

I, for one, refuse to ever let anyone tell me what I CAN'T do.  As obese people, we have spent our lives feeling that we're not good enough and that we can't do things because we're fat.  I call BULL****!  You go for it girl!  You may get there, you may not, but don't let anyone tell you that you can't!

I'm already 4 pounds lower than my doctors (original and revision surgeon) thought I would ever get, and I know I will continue to lose.  Who knows what I will be able to maintain but I will do whatever I can to succeed, and I know you will too!  Stay determined and you can do it!

I totally agree with Jo... I am in this to work my butt off and see where my body goes...

I refuse to fixate on a number... my ticker too has one mostly for fun... though I will be a little sad if I never get there... but it is a pretty realistic one... 25lbs above my ideal weight....

I too MUST be low carb to loose and am not going to worry about tweaking it until I feel like I"m at goal or I just have to cry uncle :-)

Wherever I land will be much better than it was before!!!
