OT - Would you ever date some one who went to prison...
I am in law enforcement and work with kids...
There are 3 things your friend need to consider,,
1. There are 2 sides to every story. And his side does not seem right.. He is not telling the whole truth.. Go to the ex wife and get her side. Then get a copy of the police report and court transcript.
2. After 3 years in prison, no one is the same. They have been controlled for 24 hours a day. They have seen the ugly side of life...
3. MOST of all.... She needs to think first about her kids... Why would you ever risk your children to a man who is a convicted felon and sex offender.. Her future with him is so limited.. He can not live near a school or park. He can not go to any school events. No sporting events. And when word gets out, her neighbors will force both of them out ....
Does he have a job? Most likely will not be able to get one... What does the father of her children think? He would have good reason to take her to court and get custody of her children...
Is any man worth all that?

**Warning this is long**
OK well I have 2 views about this. One is I have a cousin who was falsely accused because the girl was scared to get in trouble with her mom since she was young. I know he was because the girl kept his number in his cell phone and tried to contact him when he was out of prison to hang out with her.
The other view is that one of my good friends in high school's mother dated this guy and married him within a few months of meeting. Later on I found out the guy had just gotten out of prison. My friend told me it was due to a bar fight that got out of control and ended up in like a manslaughter charge. I believed this. The new husband was always very controlling and angry. One day I was looking at the sex offenders list in my area and low and behold his face pops up for sexual assault in the first degree. My sister and I who had spent many nights there were pissed! This man could have assaulted us, and his new wife (and probably my friend) knew that he had a sexual assault conviction and hid it from us.
I confronted my friend who said that she knew about it and it involved a charge in 1983 or 84 where a girl he was with had a father who was a cop. The father didn't like him so he filed false charges. I did not believe this story at all and told my friend (who is very naive) that it doesn't sound right.
Finally I found out the real truth. The parole officer confronts my friends mom and tells her that her new husband who is on probation has been seeing prostitutes (supposedly choking them), hanging out with other sex offenders and drinking (the man is a former addict so I believe this is somewhat of a violation). To top it off the mom goes to the doctor and discovers she has a STD (luckily curable). She tells the parole officer that he has been threatening her teenage son and that she is in fear. This is enough to get the man arrested for parole violation. I find out that the man killed someone and my friend initially tells me it was a drug deal gone wrong. Finally the friend tells me the truth. The charge that he was on the list for was for raping a 15 year old girl. The reason he was in jail for so long (1985-2003) was because he murdered a local woman in 1985!!! She was hanging out at a bar and somehow they ended up alone together. He claims they had consensual sex in a field. After that supposed consensual sex he said the woman freaked out and knew about his rape conviction and threatens to call the cops on him. He was high on drugs and got scared so he ends up strangling her.
To me this makes no sense. He took the woman's jewelry and gave it to his family members. This sounds like the actions of a potential serial killer. He probably raped the woman and strangled her for his own sick pleasures. He took the jewelry as tokens of his crime. This was someones mother, daughter and sister! I heard his family didn't even want to give the jewelry back. The man was sent back to prison for only a few years and has since been released as of this year and is living in Maine according to the sex offender registry. The woman's family was enraged because they believed if he violated probation he would have to do his full sentence.
My friend's family had to move because they were scared. I really don't feel sorry for the mother because she knew of his crimes. She dated him for just a couple of months and then let this monster move into her parent's house with her teenage daughter and son living there. Her elderly parents lived upstairs. She let us and other teenage girls sleep over in that house with a dangerous predator. I always felt uncomfortable around him and especially how he was too friendly and always hugging us a lot.
I would say it is not worth it...especially if you have children. At least tell her to do her research. The people I've seen who have been to prison are good at lying and never seem to change.

Even if the rape thing isn't true, THIS bothers me!
"""""""""One weekend after they were together he told her that he met someone else and that he wanted to officially end the marriage.""""""""""""
OK, so he was with his wife all weekend AND had sex, without telling her he was about to break up? Yep, he's a heck of a nice guy.
